Washington Post: British tabloid tactics are rampant in American journalism, too |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-12-11 01:02 PM by Snoutport
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/british-tabloid-tactics-are-rampant-in-american-journalism-too/2011/07/10/gIQAIB0l7H_story.htmlI think this is the first American Publication to say, without a doubt, it is happening here too. I think the next story in America we read about this will show phone hacking is rampant.

5. Howard Kurtz is doing damage control for Fox News |
|
he's pointing to non-Fox episodes that supposedly show what Murdoch did wasn't so bad. This story is essentially a job application to the very well paying Fox News Channel.

Instead of actually taking Murdoch to task or investigating and exposing to what extent his U.S. media tentacles are using the same MO to operate, the column does a subliminal whitewash.

16. It is hard to find the words to describe the dishonesty of Kurtz |
|
He has a very long career of lying for the powerful. I would offer that he is "owned" by someone like Murdoch or Ailes/Fox/Bushco. Maybe he was an early victim of the classic right wing ploy of blackmailing and controlling politicians, judges etc. with some bit of compromising information. Kurtz being blackmailed to play ball seems infinitely more plausible now after learning of the Murdoch minions complete fearlessness at hacking even the Prime Minister of England.

Murdoch's minions will go after them.

8. Of course it's happening here. |
|
Murdoch is first and foremost a tabloid news publisher. Always was, always will be. What is surprising to me is that anyone is at all surprised by this.

11. Howie manages to avoid the big issue: WSJ and Fox |
|
whom he feels are probably not invovlved in any of the hanky panky. Except for the fact that WSJ is presided over by the editor who was in charge during some of the most sleazy tactics in UK.
What a whore Howie is.

17. that was a major downplaying of 'comparisons'. Whatever Howie. |
|
Again he misses the point. Its not about paying for stories - its about power, corruption and corruption of power.
