I haven't posted here in a long time. Actually I haven't really been following politics much. It's been a real plus since I quit expecting anything to get better I actually managed to improve my own personal position.
I'm posting now because I couldn't help checking in and looking around now that it looks like SS and MC are about to be re-tooled.
I've been reading the threads here at DU the last couple of days and the thing that strikes me is the posts imploring Democrats and the president to wake up before it's too late. Sadly they are awake. Our elected officials are no longer representing the people. They're owned outright by the elite. The GOP isn't causing Obama to cave on every Democratic principle since FDR, that would be the big money elites that he's now a part of and has always been beholden to.
As long as people keep expecting anybody in Washington to care one way or another about mainstreet issues...well those people are going to continue to be disappointed.
I won't speak for anybody but myself but as soon as I quit worrying about what the next outrage was gonna be and tuned it out, my blood pressure dropped.
There won't be any holding Democrats feet to the fire, they don't care if their feet get burned. Modern politics is more like the WWF... choreographed and stage managed right down to the last detail.
Like it or not, for the moment our voices don't count. Screaming louder isn't going to make them count any faster.
Take care of yourself and as many others as you can and forget about there being any help in the form of our elected officials.
Greed is the order of the day for now, and I fear the best we can hope for is to survive long enough for it to burn itself up and swing back the other way.

1. But withholding our votes would definitely hurt them. |

And threatening to do so might cause them to step back from the brink. And by "them," I mean the Dems -- because the Repukes rely on fraud and intimidation to "win" elections.

but the repubs are so batshit crazy that the dems have taken over the spot the gop used to occupy....i dont see it getting anything but worse no matter which side is in the drivers seat.
i never thought i'd live to see the day that a dem pres was offering cuts to ss or mc withholding our votes wont hurt them....they'll go to lobbying or consulting or whatever. the elected office is the golden ticket and after they have it losing it doesn't mean very much.
