There are plenty of lobbyists who would be perfectly willing to make up for any missed salary, so long as they are "remembered" when their pet legislation comes up for a vote.

34. No, too big a tub of worms.
(not just the lobbyists)

It's illegal for members to accept financial assistance from lobbyists. To do so would put members in a very vulnerable position across the board. They'd be in a fix between 'sponsors' and opponents that would be more difficult to get out of than an inverted sphere.

It just wouldn't happen that way... especially when it most clearly could happen.

60. that's exactly what the Tea Party says. And they are talking about largely the opposite aims
Yes, good observation.

But an incomplete and shallow observation.

What you are really seeing is the Teabaggers want SOMETHING DONE. Not what I or any kind of sane person would want to happen, but SOMETHING.

We here also want SOMETHING DONE. A completely different set of actions, but SOMETHING.

Congress, mainly due to Repug obstruction, does NOTHING.

If I did nothing at my job, I wouldn't get a pay check either.

Perhaps you are TOO close to your Congress... you can't see the forest for the trees... the fat cat obstructionist trees. Step back.

48. DUDE!~
I AM CLOSE to my 2nd Dist. Rep Mike Michaud. He has taken us ( Local Dems ) to breakfast, listened to us, marched in our local parades with us. He is a real sweetheart! Unfortunatel'y he is ONLY ONE AMONG 435! He DID defeat the Koch sponsored candidate run against him last fall!
My 2 moderate repub. ladies Sens. Snowe & Collins............really SUPPORT WELFARE! Every call I have made to them in the last 10, years to get them to change LEGISLATION, has resulted in being given information on how to get HELP ( CHARITY) from some social agency.
I NEED laws that support my independant entrepreneurship., to get me out of the straightjacket created by these laws. ( Yes I know Republican are supposed to be AGAINST welfare)
But they keep bringing home to Maine more LIHEAP funds etc. so my clueless fellow citizens keep voting them into office! Snowe's longtime aid, KNOWS MY VOICE and calls me by name when I call.
I have been VERY ACTIVE politically these past 10 years.................& outspoken to any who will listen to me. ( If you are behind me in the supermarket check out you will hear my political views whether you want to or not.)
I AM ONLY ONE PERSON.......up against the Rev.Moon, bush enterprises, Koch Bros, Heartland Inst. Cato Inst. & EVERY DAMNED FUNDIE CHURCH IN THE LAND.
I AM 72, TIRED & DISCOURAGED, UNSUPPORTED BY MOST except a few friends & family members! not homeless, not hungry, not even sick ( If I were I would get a lot more help) but developing my art career sure takes a backseat to just survival activities!
If they stop SS in AUG. I may go move in with one of the Senators!!
AND there's that bush mansion in Kennebunkport...stands empty all winter. A bunch of us could be comfortable there.
I am saying the SAME THINGS AS THE T-party.................YES! But I want VERY DIFFERENT RESULTS!

31. As unbelievable as it may seem
I swear this is a true story. Back in the early 1990's I was a paralegal in a 2-attorney law firm. When I first started, I told them we had to be absolutely clear on one point: I would NOT be doing any work for their Republican causes. They said that although they would have liked it, they respected my limitations. I later found that when things got tough, one or both of them would forgo their own paycheck to be sure that I got mine. Sure would be nice if they were in the House now. What a decent example they set.

36. K&R Obama should be included
All of them should be included. I wonder what their response would be when they are asked to make the sacrifices they expect of us. Might be fun to watch. True, they probably have more stashed away then any of us might see in a lifetime, but I'd just like to see their faces.

I remember when Minnesota Senator Barbara Goodwin suggested that lawmakers adopt the health care plan for the poor, they had proposed, for 2 years, for themselves. Surprise...There were no takers. Good article, worth a read:

"Surprise amendment stuns Senate during debate over health care for poor"

By Doug Grow | Wednesday, May 11, 2011

"Apparently, what's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander."

"That little truth came to light during Tuesday's Senate debate over health care for the poor."

http://www.minnpost.com/stories/2011/05/11/28200/surprise_amendment_stuns_senate_during_debate_over_health_care_for_poor

The absolute arrogance of these people when you want to take something away from them, or ask them to make a sacrifice, is stunning. Too bad we all can't get away with that, especially when it's our money that pays for them.

Cut off their staffers, cut off their franking privileges, lock any special-use gym, eatery, transportation, etc. Don't restock their office supplies, coffee machines, even their toilet paper.

Most of these guys are millionaires anyway. Cutting off their pay for a little while won't get to them.
Making it an even bigger pain in the neck to go about their daily routine will.
