KRUGMAN: Our failure to create jobs is a choice, not a necessity
No, We Can’t? Or Won’t?
By PAUL KRUGMAN

..........................

The truth is that creating jobs in a depressed economy is something government could and should be doing. Yes, there are huge political obstacles to action — notably, the fact that the House is controlled by a party that benefits from the economy’s weakness. But political gridlock should not be conflated with economic reality.

Our failure to create jobs is a choice, not a necessity — a choice rationalized by an ever-shifting set of excuses.

...................

Excuse No. 1: Just around the corner, there’s a rainbow in the sky.
Excuse No. 2: Fear the bond market.
Excuse No. 3: It’s the workers’ fault.
Excuse No. 4: We tried to stimulate the economy, and it didn’t work.

3. I am convinced jobs were not, and are not a priority
for this administration. From day fucking one we desperately needed jobs, yet there was always some crisis to deal with first. Time and time again we were told jobs would be next on the agenda, but they were full of shit. You can't blame it all on the pukes, when we had the house, senate, and whitehouse, yet did exactly fuck all. It might take me a little while, but eventually I can recognize when somebody is just blowing smoke up my butt.

5. But But Obama put together a Jobs Commission
Consisting of CEOs and other really wealthy people who spend the last 2 decades shipping jobs out of the country. They had serious meetings and conferred and decided that the reason there are no jobs and high unemployment is because the workers are not skilled enough.
It's the worker's fault!

Who did not see that coming?

The big plan is exports and free trade agreements, and Mexican trucks delivering goods from expanded ports in Mexico.... and more H1B visas to bring more skilled people into the country. They think that there should be vocational programs to retrain workers at government or worker expense and they will charter just the schools for that. No guarantees of course.

in other words... the American Worker is Shit. Out. Of. Luck.

6. 100% correct. I always expected this from republicans,
But was blindsided by the support of this by many in the Democratic party. I guess my only excuse is I was living in denial, I just didn't want to believe it.

7. Me thinks jobs have been very low on the RW's list of priorities when there's
wars to prosecute, Wall Street to bail out, tax cuts for the uber-wealthy to be extended, and social safety net to be eviscerated. :patriot:
