So the Pukes caved and Obama looks like a brilliant strategist, outsmarted all of them: |
|
Was flipping the Tee Vee, saw boner being interviewed on Faux News, he sounded like he is resigned to the fact that they will raise the debt ceiling, give the President what he wants...etc. Then, there was a panel with both Brit Humes (sp) and the asshole Charles Krouchhammert (sp), the crazy dude, basically both agreed that Obama was able to orchestrate a successful coup over this past weekend...Cropuchhammert blamed it on the media, saying that the President was able to convince the media that he was for real reform, which according to him, none of it was true, then the pukes/boner were the ones who backed out...etc.
I am thinking this is over, the President won the day this time around, and for his reelection campaign, he is on record saying he wanted the BIG DEAL done, the $4 trillion to reduce the deficit, AND he also agreed to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and SS...etc. The pukes are the ones who said no!!!
I am proud of MY President this evening...

He wouldn't dare veto the $4T deal if it had passed and we all would have lost then.

Sorry, I only relate to the actual, and never the hypothetical.
He never wanted to cut any of those things. He said so numerous times, and again just yesterday. Too bad you are too busy hating the man to pay attention.
Even at that.... HE DIDN'T! So you better go find another thing to be outraged at this president about... find your poiny hat or something and give it a rest.

I would have preferred a default to the any of the deals proposed so far except for The People's Budget. That is the deficit deal that needs to be passed.

There is a difference.
If you don't think so, walk through the wards at Walter Reed. You will find very few senators or representatives lying about (they are the ones who keep up the funding you know), or anyone in a pin-stiped suit who authorized any of it, and continues to do so.

But you just keep telling yourself that.
Weak tea, I say, that you have to scrape so hard for this smear... which was a deflection from being shown reality on another subject.
And using injured soldiers in your wild ridiculousness is really beyond the pale. Those people do what they are told and don't make the decisions. Everything they do is orchestrated by a higher ranking person.

|
"Everything they do is orchestrated by a higher ranking person"
The person who 'orchestrated' will then say "I did it" or if really generous "We did it" even though there was no "we" in "we", and there was no danger to the 'orchestrator.'
Meanwhile, the 'orchestrators' are continuing to fund/escalate hostile activities in which men and women continue to be blown to bits.
It isn't a smear. It's the real picture. People who have never been in the military do not hesitate to someone else's children, wives, husbands, parents, cousins to be maimed or killed. And then say stuff like "WE need to stay the course" and there isn't a WE there.

That is really sad.
I was considering the 'ignore' button, but it's more interesting to see how little you think of your fellow man.
In your world, do you see a wounded, dismembered veteran and say "Gee, if he'd been a thinking man, he could have sent someone else. No brain work there!"

I'm having trouble reconciling those two statements. The President has gone on record as endorsing not only trickle down economics (keeping taxes low so "job creators" will create jobs), but austerity as a means of economic growth.
I don't know why people are responding here as if this whole charade were over, with a fade out on the happy ending.

So, in order to make the Republicans look dumb, the President legitimizes their demands by offering it to them, infuriating his own supporters and terrifying a bunch of very easily frightened, very registered voters?
And of course, no deal has been made-- though one must eventually be made-- and the morsels on the table now include things like Social Security and Medicare.
It doesn't make sense.

apparently you haven't watched many Clint Eastwood movies. It was the "go ahead make my day" moment. Repugs actually had to put up, and cut the tea party wackaloon benefits (have you noticed how old most of them are?) and as a price for doing it, raise taxes on the Koch brothers....
"you think this is important and want to do something? Then let's do it, I dare you"
They were never serious about this and BHO knew it. Making hard choices that affect their voters is just not their thing, and it never has been. 8 years of Bush blowing huge deficits has to tell you something, given you are paying attention. They were all "Rah Rah support our Troops" types, but Bush knew better than to ask them to pay taxes for it or have their kids drafted.
They are and have always been "all hat and no cattle".
They want and even demand all government services, and generally get very irate if you do not deliver fast enough, but they never want to pay.

55. Your post says a deal is done. |
|
I would say that is hyperventilating (I don't need to put it in large caps) by definition since there is no deal whatsoever.

... when a good deal is done and not before. Any deal that does not include at least 25% as much in revenue increases as it does cuts is NOT a good deal and I'm not remotely convinced that Obama will get a good deal, that would be a FIRST for him.
Optimism is fine I supposed but I for one am sick and tired of being whipsawed like I have on pretty much every big legislative item for the last 3 years.

56. The People's Budget is the only good deal presented so far. That needs to be Obama's position. |
|
No Republican has offered anything that comes close to balancing the budget in ten years.

...for me to say this. When I saw our first black president being sworn in, I wept tears of joy that I could not hold back. My chest swelled with a pride I never thought I'd feel for America again after 8 years of unbridled facism. I will be manning the phone bank come campaign time, as I did in 2008. America walks what it talks, people. Our man in the white house is living proof of that. He isn't perfect. Neither am I. God I miss Keith Olbermann. ;)

67. I wonder what the real story is: I bet it goes something like this |
|
The GOP has been shanghaied by a bunch of knuckle dragging imbecile wackos (ie their base) and they have a choke hold on their party leaders.
Any GOP leader that has any sanity at all has no room to maneuver politically. They either buy into the bases, wacko destroy the country economically, and Jesus will come delusional policy, or cave like a wuss and get booted come next election.

He would have taken any deal the republicans tendered. As much as I truly hate to say it, maybe we were "saved" by the republicans this time?

91. I believe that the President stands by his words |
|
I believe that he wants that deal to go forward as described. If the Republicans are too tied up in knots to take it, yes the President ends up looking good. But if the Republicans end up realizing that accepting the deal that Obama offered them turns out to be the least problematic option for them to go with out of the choices they now have, I think the President would be fine with that.
I think Obama feels he is in a no lose situation? Can't make that deal? Fine raise the debt limit and move on. Want to accept that deal? Fine. We will get America's economic house in order.
People here are starting to respond as if this was all just one big bluff, Obama was just bluffing about raising the age of Medicare to 67 etc. He never would have done it, or he never would have offered it if there was ANY chance Republicans would have taken that deal. I don't think so. I think that's a deal he would willingly make. I believe Obama said what he believes and believes in what he said.

We still have to be careful here.
Will the president be willing to raise the debt ceiling alone and be held totally responsible? Are we looking at guts or talent?
