1. I hope that at least some people call their bluff.
My wife and I are cancelling our subscription.

2. I canceled about an hour ago
might come back eventually but I wanted to make a statement

Hulu Plus will give you a week free so I may try that for a while. Same price as Netflix for just streaming.

If they do some package deal for something like $12.99 I will come back to them but for now they lost a customer.

3. The streaming choices are limited, they need to upgrade that.
Why not stream it all?

9. That and they just lost the Starz contract
All Starz programming has been pulled because Netflix' subscriber headcounts exceeded the Sony/Starz contract limit.

16. Ah. Thanks.
I watched all of the episodes of The Event on Hulu as I could never remember to tune in when it aired. Never checked out what else they did.

6. Anyone know what Amazon offers?
I clicked around for like 10 minutes and never found a straight answer as to what kind of deals they have for their video streaming plans. Is it just per video as opposed to monthly plans?

12. DVD and Streaming went to $7.99 each from $9.99 combined
They combined them to $15.98 to stream + 1 DVD at a time (unlimited). They split the business into 2 units - one for streaming and one for mail DVD.

Good news as reported by some DUers who have the 3 DVD at a time plan and can't stream as they cut costs.

Sucks for those of us on the 1 DVD plan who might do 1 DVD every 6 weeks while streaming weekly because of the limited titles they offer on streaming video.

11. 'Good grief. Does this topic need to be posted like 4 times an hour? Like this is earth shattering
news or something.

$7.99 for unlimited movies is a great deal. And the movies even come to you for free.

You can't even hardly get a sandwich for $8 now.

15. Well, production houses know this is the future of distribution and contracts are coming back up in
2012-2014.

I heard a few years ago that the defining image of the 1930s depression was the photo(s) of the soup lines, and in the 2010s will be the blue glow from the TV shining through the solitary window over the garage where a family has been forced to move back in with their elderly parents.

Poetic for this topic. In a sad and depressing way.

17. Netflix isn't a charity...
They do have a right to make money. It has been clear for sometime they would need to raise prices. The studios are putting the squeeze on them for the right to stream their catalogs. A victim of their own success.

Still a far better deal than Cable, PPV or RedBox...

19. Yep,,,,, I think we'll be going the other way, tho,,,,
We'll keep the streaming and cancel the DVD option.

We use Amazon for streaming the new release movies anyway.

It's their business and they can do what they want,,,, but so can I. :P

now that video rental stores are almost non-existent. Isn't that what any monopoly would do?
