Who has actually read "The Audacity of Hope"? |
|
Obama laid out what kind of senator and what kind of president he would be in his own words: "The rejection of absolutism implicit in our constitutional structure may sometimes make our politics seem unprincipled. But for most of our history, it has encouraged the very process of information gathering, analysis, and argument that allows us to make better if not perfect choices, not only about the means to our ends but also about the ends themselves. Whether we are for or against affirmative action, for or against prayer in schools, we must test out our ideals, vision, and values, against the realities of a common life, so that over time they may be refined, discarded, or replaced by new ideals, sharper visions, deeper values."
Obama is a true believer in the constitutional process. He made no attempt to hide that. He also said that it is not easy or fast. I think some of the confusion here is in what that process is. What he is doing with these negotiations is the opposite of Republicans of the last administration which either signed executive orders or used threats to get it's way. Obama is most certainly a Democrat true to Democratic ideals.

2. That is why we now have "legal" assassinations and Gitmo is still up and running. |
|
Why the Patriot Act is still in effect and Habeas Corpus is no longer an American ideal. Why we are using drone warfare in countries we are not supposedly at war with..Quite Constitutionally minded indeed.

I think that the proposition that he is a "true believer in the constitutional process" is, at very best, open to debate.

6. Interesting ..... My distrust of Mr. Obama has shallowed a bit. |
|
When troubleshooting, we often use a technique called "reducto ad absurdum" or something like that. It obviously means "reduce to what is absurd". It provides scale between the two extremes.
Maybe that is what he was up to .... defining the absurd.

I read every political book I could lay my hands on...in my own bookshelves, and that was one, given to me by my daughter, an early supporter of Obama.

I still feel suckered in by his message when he is cutting away at our democratic platform so often.

aside all information, analysis and reason on important issues. On Civil Rights for some minorities, he is all about 'belief' and 'faith' and 'Sacraments' and unprovable nonsense about all Straights being 'Sanctified by God' and how they have a 'spiritual element' gay people just do not have, according to his 'belief', not according to facts, reason, evidence. Tell me, OP, do you feel that Mr and Mrs Vitter and the Ensigns are sharing a spiritual Union, crafted by God, Sanctified and pure, their marriages so very Sacramental that any rights for gay people would sully them, while the diapers, mistresses and children with hump buddies does not sully them? Is this your personal assertion, or do you disagree with the President on that 'gathered information and analysis'? The hypocrisy is hip deep and the bigotry thick as a morning fog.
