Austrian driver's religious headgear strains credulity
Source: BBC News

An Austrian atheist has won the right to be shown on his driving-licence photo wearing a pasta strainer as "religious headgear".

Niko Alm first applied for the licence three years ago after reading that headgear was allowed in official pictures only for confessional reasons.

Mr Alm said the sieve was a requirement of his religion, pastafarianism.

The Austrian authorities required him to obtain a doctor's certificate that he was "psychologically fit" to drive.

This guy fought for three years for the right to wear a spaghetti strainer as religious headgear for the church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I hope he doesn't incite the Pastacaust (or the Holopasta).

3. That's awesome!
Now that Atheism has been recognized as a faith, maybe they can benefit from the same tax exempt status as churches and be recognized during seasonal celebrations! Would love to see some fanatics heads explode when they find out freedom of religion will also have to protect the non-religious!

6. Nice try, but Pastafarianism is not atheism.
It's a made-up religion exactly like all the others except that it doesn't seek money or power over people's lives. It has naught to do with atheism, as an atheist would not have faith in the power of the Flying Spaghetti Monster or His Noodly Appendage.

7. Sigh
Everyone know it's not a collander, but it should be a pirate's kerchief or tricorn hat. Will they allow the eyepatch?
