"......SNIP

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., offered a new to allow the president to demand up to $2.4 trillion in new borrowing authority by the summer of next year in three separate submissions. Those increases in the so-called debt limit would automatically take effect unless both the Republican-controlled House and the Democratic Senate enact legislation specifically disapproving it.

Obama would be able to veto such legislation.

The GOP plan would require that Obama submit spending cuts along with his borrowing requests. But unlike the increase in the debt limit, they wouldn't automatically take effect.

1. Semantics.... Administration always refers to "spending in the tax code"
when speaking of subsidies and breaks.

They could end all tax breaks and subsidies and call it "cutting spending in the tax code".

2. I don't agree. Repukes really, really do not want the Bush tax cuts to end.
Seems they'll do anything to convert those new millionaires to the dark side.

4. I have a tendency to mistrust most political moves...
and don't have the indepth attention span to deeply analyze them. I rely on people who I trust more and news sources who seem to be fair, civil, intelligent AND agree with my thoughts the most (slow grin)

But I do not trust anything coming from the Republicans of this Congress for any reason.
Especially anything coming out of McConnell.

As intelligent as I think Obama is, and that is considerably intelligent....I'd take anything out of this punk's mouth with tremendous suspicion.

5. McConnell's plan give Obama a huge campaign issue:
spending cuts for the very rich.

In a TYT clip here on DU, I saw David Stockman stating that in 1985, the top 5% had $8 trillion in wealth. Today, they have $40 trillion. He pointed out that is more wealth than the entire human race had accumulated prior to 1980.

That's a great campaign issue, but if Obama goes ahead with cuts to Social Security and Medicare, he will lose a lot of votes -- including mine. We paid for Social Security and Medicare. We do not want to become burdens to our children. And many, many Americans are worried about this.

In-laws in our family are in worse shape and will be more dependent on Social Security than even we are.

People out of work at 55 now cannot wait until 67 to get Medicare. The idea of cutting the benefits of the elderly so that the rich can keep their trillions is just sickening. How dare these Republicans pose as Christians?
