Bachmann Holds Big Lead in Iowa
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2011/07/13/bachmann_holds_big_lead_in_iowa.html">Source

"A new Magellan Strategies survey in Iowa finds Michele Bachmann leading among likely caucus attendees with 29%, followed by Mitt Romney at 16%, Tim Pawlenty and Herman Cain at 8%, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich at 5% and Rick Santorum at 3%. Another 24% of respondents are undecided."

These results http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/58816.html">are in line with a new American Research Group poll yesterday. There's also a http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2011/07/13/poll-bachmann-support-surges/?mod=WSJBlog&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wsj%2Fwashwire%2Ffeed+%28WSJ.com%3A+Washington+Wire%29">new Quinnipiac poll that shows her in second in New Hampshire.

This is music to my ears! Michele Bachmann would mean Democrats winning back the House in 2012. These numbers are good, and in concert with every other poll we've seen.

9. It's possible she fizzles out.
But I think she's a lot more likely to at least pull a Mike Huckabee strong second place. People compare her to Trump, but the comparison isn't apt. Trump was never serious, was not a politician, etc. Bachmann has been a national figure for years, and if you watch some videos of her on YouTube, she's actually pretty savvy. Nate Silver at fivethirtyeight.com thinks she's the favorite to win Iowa.

She's more like Sarah Palin, if Palin knew what newspapers she read and where North Korea was.

3. What I call the Stupid Belt is not a geographic entity
but a mindset. And it's everywhere in the country, most commonly found in exurban/remote suburban areas. And in Minnesota, we've always maintained that Iowa stands for Idiots Out Walking Around, but that's a state rivalry thing.

11. Why are all the football fields in Iowa
covered with artificial turf?

So the cheerleaders won't graze.

10. True
But there's also people like Herman Cain and Rick Santorum taking up % points. They're going to drop out- maybe after Iowa, maybe before- and their supporters are more in line with Bachmann than Romney or Pawlenty. Rick Perry is a wild card though...
