This is what I expect to hear, or already am hearing from the right
(yes...I'm plagarizing my own post in H2O Mans thread on his very fine post here: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/H2O%20Man/847 )

These are memes I expect to see or have seen:

1)

"...with the kind of socialistic opression we're seeing out of Washington right now, it's a wonder we're not seeing more of this kind of thing. This is a young man who represents many Americans who are fed up -- who have been pushed to their limit."

I've already seen variations of the above posted on Yahoo!

2)

"...the cross hairs and language of hunting you saw on those Sarah Palin announcements were sports metaphors. We use them all the time in our society - 'congressional opponents are staging a full court press against the legislation', 'the speech hit a home run', 'the attack on his opponent blindsided him.' You liberals, who don't understand that hunting is a sport, enjoyed by millions, are now twisting these phrases on the SarahPac site to mean something they clearly did not."

This is what I expect to hear a lot of tomorrow. We on the left just don't get it. It was a metaphor, for gosh sakes. Sarah wouldn't actually advocate violence against anthing other than a moose.

3)

"...guns are not the problem. Guns are inanimate objects. They never killed anyone."

Seeing a lot of this

4)

Also, as as been posted elsewhere here, people are praying for Sarah Palin, which in & of itself isn't too out of the ordinary, but now I keep seeing this meme about "sending angels to protect Sarah and her family." Odd. Why not just ask for God's protection directly?

5)

"...you folks on the left are conspiracy theorists. You accuse the Bush administration of planning 9-11, and yet you demonize the so-called 'birthers.' Now, a lone nut case commits a horrific act, and suddenly it's a conspiracy involving the whole tea party and Sarah Palin."

H2O man said this in his post, and I though the phrasing was awesome: "...within 24 hours, the media will report a legend of a mentally ill loner. While hopefully everyone can agree that he is 100% responsible for all of his acts, I will never believe that he was alone responsible."

This seems to have been too carefully thought out for a lone nut job. Maybe it's just me?

1. The right is in full blown spin mode hoping people forget the last 2 years
of tea bag republicon calls for armed resistance against elected Democratic public servants. They also hope people only see Palins poster and not the words "we have found the problem..........now its time to prescribe the solution" at the top of the target poster, so the spin is she was using hunting symbolisms for the poster, yeah right and I have beach front property in Az to sell.

The right wants us to forget all of their cute little tea bag signs also, remember these gems? Time to water the tree of liberty, we came unarmed this time, just to mention a couple of sign's I remember. Then there was Sharon Angle's call for second amendment remedies if she lost the election as well as Palins don't retreat reload crap, clearly calls for violence. Who can forget the gun toting nit wits parading around tea bag events or the arrests of militia in Michigan and Ohio, just how many left wing militias are there that we have to watch out for, 0.

So far the only example from right wing nut jobs for left wing dangerous threats I have been able to find was a wing nut claimed to have seen a lefty post was, "my congress critter voted against Pelosi....shes DEAD to me", the wing nut then claimed said post was deleted, ok. There was a poster put out by a D that used cross hairs over states that D's needed to win over, but it only targeted states not districts nor did it list any R's that needed to be targeted that the wing nuts are claiming shows both sides are equally guilty of violent dogma, but again not the same as the calls to violence the right have made. Funny how tea baggers always talk about personal responsibility yet when it comes time to put up or shut up they chose the latter and finger point like the 3 year old pointing at big brother while standing in the middle of the broken cookie jar mess.

3. Clearly, the signs and posters were meant to intimidate and incite..
...and I'm sure you've seen this reaction as well, "The Democrats/liberals/WH will now use this as an excuse to come take our guns."

4. ...and now it starts in earnest. See the attached article
Howard Kurtz - The Daily Beast

"Should We Blame Sarah Palin for Gabrielle Giffords' Shooting"

-snip-

One of the first to be dragged into this sickening ritual of guilt by association: Sarah Palin. Last March, the former Alaska governor posted a map on her Facebook page with crosshair targets representing 20 Democratic lawmakers she was singling out for defeat after they voted for President Obama's health care plan. One of them was Giffords. Palin, who touts her caribou-hunting heritage, also tweeted, "Don't retreat, RELOAD!"

This kind of rhetoric is highly unfortunate. The use of the crosshairs was dumb. But it's a long stretch from such excessive language and symbols to holding a public official accountable for a murderer who opens fire on a political gathering and kills a half-dozen people, including a 9-year-old girl.

5. Suddenly they get the concept of the metaphor!
Since, when you debate them, and use a metaphor, they will take it literally. They only understand them when convenient.
