Why isn't CONGRESS not getting THEIR paychecks?
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 10:55 PM by FirstLight
Is there a campaign somewhere or a email effort we can start to ask this simple question?

~ If congress is to blame for the default, why should Social Security and Veteran's Benefits to suffer? Why shouldn't THEY be the ones to have a pay cut until they can DO THEIR fucking JOBS? ~

just a thought... shall we start the presses?

Congress, Obama get paid in a government shutdown

By Catalina Camia, USA TODAY
Updated 04/06/2011 04:27 PM

Did you know Congress and President Obama would be paid if the federal government has to shut down this weekend?

Despite attempts in the U.S. House and Senate to block such a move, by law Congress and the president would continue to get paid if a budget deal is not reached by Friday. Aides who are deemed "essential" in helping members of Congress in carrying out their constitutional duties could also get paid, but not until federal funding is settled...

Why is it so difficult to cut off pay for Congress? The 27th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is the answer. It states that "no law, varying the compensation for the services of the senators and representatives, shall take effect, until an election of representatives shall have intervened."

AS IF the bastards couldn't just refuse to take it until everyone else, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, their hands are tied, right? Right?

Bueller?

5. It is disheartening to watch the vandals walk away with treasure while
proclaiming that they are protecting it.

3. I believe the term is "Key and Essential" personnel.....
But the real reason why Congress will get paid, and other poor baastids won't?

CONGRESS makes LAW.

They make the laws that BENEFIT THEM. That's why they get paid, that's why they get raises every year, even while they decide that the COLA is not going up for military retirees and SS recipients.

They take care of themselves first.

6. You bet they do. Lately, it seems that they take care of themselves
ONLY.

I mean, let a few crumbs fall, eh?

4. The idea is to scare the really vulnerable. Members of Congress in generally are pretty well off.
