What I Just Saw On CNN
by slinkerwink

At first I thought it was one of those commercials for sleep aids, because the woman at the start of the commercial wakes up in her dark bedroom, looking all consternated. I was expecting to see a yellow butterfly come into her bedroom, but as the commercial went on, it became clear that it was a political ad against President Obama, and urging Members of Congress not to vote on raising the debt ceiling.

This is the video below from CrossRoads GPS:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESAszBVMnC4&feature=player_embedded

They supposedly have "cites" for the claims made in the video, which you can see here. But once you do, you see that there's absolutely no mention of how we GOT into this mess to begin with in the first place. Nothing about how the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy is a major contributor to our economic problem, and how the Bush administration along with their policy of lax deregulation was complicit in the housing collapse and the mortgage fraud going on among banks.

I decided to google Crossroads GPS, the name of the organization that made this political ad. And surprise, it's Karl Rove's group!

This is the sort of SuperPAC that doesn't disclose its donors, thus their donations are hidden in secret. However, we do have an idea who's donated, given that the partner organization to Crossroads GPS is American Crossroads, the group run by Karl Rove.

New FEC filings show that American Crossroads, the Karl Rove-backed group that is pouring money into attack ads targeting Democrats around the country, continues to be funded virtually entirely by billionaires...

SNIP

So that's the kind of ad that was playing on CNN tonight. Are you seeing it anywhere else?

1. Yeah, I'd recognize the stink of Pig-Boy Rove anywhere.
The dismantling of the Republic via Citizens United shifts into high gear.

That shitheel, Steven Law, the President of Crossroads GPS, was the same punk who masterminded the Chamber of Commerce's ad campaign against the Employee Free Choice Act.

Astroturf ASSHOLES!

2. The ad concludes that higher taxes (on the wealthy) equals more debt.

WTF?

This makes absolutely no sense but it preys upon the anxiety of uninformed people and that's probably the whole point.

Also, anybody who thinks Medicare or SS cuts won't ultimately be blamed on Obama should probably watch this ad. The Rove ad machine is already laying blame for the dirty deed in advance.

3. Karl does it all because some little girl beat him up...
...when he was a kid, for having a Nixon sticker on his bike.

He's been getting even with Dems ever since.

7. The reason I find it important to watch is because it repeats what is being posted on liberal sites
that is anti-Obama. Makes me wonder...

8. I Saw This Earlier In The Day And Thought That A Good Response By The Dems Would Be......
to air their commercial and interject the factual responses to the false claims being made in it at the appropriate times. Basically refute their commercial by using their commercial with factual voice-overs. I don't know why more politicians don't use that technique. Most political commercials are a series of false or less than factual claims. Maybe one can't do that because of copyrights or something as the other side owns the commercial. I admit - I don't know the rules regarding such usage.

9. Rove is neither republican nor Teabagger. Likely a Fascist.

10. Yes. KKKarl Rove created Crossroads a few years back as his front group.
CNN has been playing that dumb commercial now for many weeks. While I was in the gym, the ad aired at least 5 times within an hour. :puke:

12. It's been playing here for a couple of weeks...
I'm in the Charlotte, NC media market, so I think they're probably aiming for the right-wingers and/or the so-called independents. There have actually been 2 different ads now over the last month or so, but the current one has the woman in the ad saying in an earnest, concerned voice: "I voted for President Obama because he spoke so beautifully..." as part of her spiel. I thought that phrase was rather telling in terms of who they wanted to entice with their propaganda. It was pretty blatant to me, but could catch some of the stupid.

15. This is a VERY important fact
If Karl Rove is pushing this, it means default is VERY likely. Rove, like it or not, is mainstream Rethuglican. The big business Rethuglicans have lost control of their party.
