The sheriff pointed to the vitriolic political rhetoric that has consumed the country as he denounced the shooting that claimed several of his friends as victims, including US District Judge John Roll. The judge celebrated Mass on Saturday morning like he does every day before stopping by to say hello to his good friend Giffords.

"When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous," the sheriff said. "And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

The sheriff used the word "vitriol" several times to express his disgust with the political climate in the country and in Arizona, a heavily conservative state that put itself at the centre of the national debate on immigration last year with a contentious crackdown on illegal immigrants. Residents and politicians here have also vocally opposed Obama and Democrats on health care.

And why isn't what he said being shown over and over again on the cable news channels? Seems kind of important, doesn't it? Some idiot birther started screaming about President Obama at the Rethugs constitution reading and I seen that replayed a hundred times the following day. Why not replay what the sheriff said over and over again?

it wasn't that clinton was right -- it was the rw indignation at having been caught with their collective

The question should become, what do we do about it? Short of buying media companies what can be done?

Well I have to say that it is so darn simple to put up a website these days that everyone should have one. For about $50 - $100 a year you can get a domain name and full service linux hosting. A simple page or two to start with. Then the sky is the limit.

Of course then there are the TWITter and Facebook routes.

What I do not understand, is why liberal progressive people continue to fund the RW propaganda msm conglomerates. But in reality, there is little one can do to avoid it. You need to have a phone and network connection. The media companies own all the copper and fiber.

of spreading it. Drama and "controversy" are simply tools to increase ratings for them, and make more money.
Remember in the 2008 campaign when McCain/Palin supporters were calling out "Kill him" in reference to candidate Obama? Nothing was said to expose or de fuse that, by the media OR by the GOP, and it has been building ever since with the GOP's tacit agreement and support, while the media tells us that it's politics as usual...
