1. Yet Obama himself voted against raising it when he was in the senate
kabuki theater if I'd ever seen one.

3. I dont know the exact level and unfortunately Im about to take off, here is Obama's statement on it
from 2006:

------
The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

------

In 2007 and 2008 when the issue came up again Obama didn't vote.

4. Does seem a bit hypocritical
since our debt at the time was far lower than it is now.

6. Symbolic protest votes
should not to be confused with lockstep political extremism or even with meaningful votes that decide actual outcomes on narrowly decided issues.

I don't know what the vote tally was when Obama voted against raising it but I suspect it wasn't too close.

7. You shouldn't vote for anything you're not prepared to defend
If it was a protest vote he needs to do one hell of a good job explaining why he voted that way in 2006 but the opposite in 2011.

8. politicians on both sides engage in protest votes
regularly... there is a certain leeway to allow a number of politicos to do that... regularly. That is how DC NORMALLY works,

12. I am explaining to you how DC works
as to hope and change, I am not working for this President in 2012, nor giving money... that's the truth. Hell, even sent back the T-Shirt and mug...

but most politicians don't run on change. Obama did. Yet it's the same shit, just a different asshole.

11. He would probably say something like:
"I'm President now and as such it is my solemn responsibility to see that the country does not default; I don't get to cast protest votes anymore."

10. The popular media have whispered this once or twice
So later, when the whole charade has been played, the talking chuckleheads can claim that they knew how it was hypocritical political theater all along. Naturally, you won't hear much more than a peep about this until it's all over, because they don't want to spoil the surprise.

Feel free to vomit anytime.
