maybe it's a protest against a repressive communist regime by embracing a political ideology that is opposite of Mao.

15. Perhaps, but the problem is, they don't have a repressive communist regime anymore,
They have a repressive capitalist regime now.

But yeah, it could be some sort of bizarre form of protest. I'm still going for bizarre cos play though, the floppy ears the one bride is wearing makes me think along those lines.

24. It's still repressive and evolved from the communist one.
Capitalism as we know can operate quite well if left alone in any kind of political system and people make the mistake of thinking of it as a political system instead of an economic one. These kids have probably been raised to honor Mao and everything he stood for and they know it's crap and new capitalistic philosophies have not changed the repressions and lack of freedom, so the opposite seems to attract them.

It's what happened in the sixties when young Americans turned their backs on the conservative, misogynist and racist ideals of their parents and started protesting wars, smoking pot and liberating themselves sexually by becoming the opposite of their parents. Throw in some tattoos, now popular among middle class young Americans, once the mark of ex-cons and bikers, and you get the concept.

30. Well, you've got a point about the evolution aspect
But I would have to strong disagree with you on the notion that "Capitalism as we know can operate quite well if left alone in any kind of political system". History is loaded with the carcasses of capitalism's victims, victims by the millions. Hell, we've been leaving capitalism more and more alone since the 1980's, and look where we are now.

As far as this being some sort of protest on the part of these couples, really, I seriously doubt it. I honestly do think it is some sort of cos play, weird themed wedding.

38. It's already been proven. We worshipped at the
altar of capitalism in the last century and even were propagandized to believe it was the opposite of the evil communism, however, it's not a political system. It just operated under our Republican system of government and served us well when it was regulated and when we made our own stuff. Communist countries like China have proven it can work if allowed to be legal even under a communist style regime. Of course underground black markets in the past thrived in the Soviet bloc countries as well as China. Fortunes were made selling our blue jeans in the black market in the last century and they were manufactured here in the USA back then making some of us prosperous and giving jobs to many others.

As far as a weird themed wedding, you could be right. I was just speculating there might be a rebellious aspect to it.

I tried to get some friends to make the connection, but they couldn't. Interesting fact: During the Rape of Nanjing, one of the ex-patriates in the Foreign Zone was John Rabe, a German businessman and Nazi Party member. He actually tried to help rescue Chinese citizens from Japanese atrocities.

12. Will someone please explain why Asia in general seems to have such a huge disconnect when....
...it comes to Nazis? Over the years I have read of bars, restaurants, etc., all themed around celebration of Hitler and the Nazis. What gives? This world is fascinating to me, mainly because there are so many unexplainable situations, customs, etc. This fits into that category but it's so...distastefully bizarre. Again, this is something I've read quite a bit about over the years, usually in a "News of the Weird" type article.

And why...in China? Japan and the other Axis powers were merciless against the Chinese during WW II. I mean absolutely merciless.

So why this total disconnect?

when it comes to comparing the Holocaust in Europe and what happened in China and other Asian countries at the hands of the Japanese. It's not taught in detail. It's almost racial in that for many westerners, Japanese mercilessly killing Chinese soldiers was just Asian killing Asian.

13. There was a "Kiss" wedding after a minor league baseball game I attended a few years ago. . .
The bride was dressed in flowing white, the groom and his cohorts (best men?) dressed as Gene Simmons and the boys. In the background of the wedding party, and presumably in all the wedding pictures, there was a giant green reptile-like team mascot.

We thought it all hilarious and were somewhat taken aback when we realized it was, in fact, a real wedding. After seeing this, however, I've a new found respect for the comparative decorum exhibited on that baseball field.

Oh.. Thank lord my old grandfather, and fosterfather are not living today.. This would really racles their anger to say at least.. They experienced this uniform up and personal, and was lucy enough to survive it..

But then, China have had a "foundness" for Hitler lately, in http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China/ME25Ad01.html you can read some of it, that many in china, special the young ones, are looking for a strong leader, in a often chaotic world..

And for some, Hitler was a strong leader, who made train goes as it should, ans secured for the german a future - even tho it ended different from what Hitler or his followers wanted in 1945..

At best, this is just tasteless pictures, where peopole who dosen't know what this uniforms, and ideology meant for millions of peopole in Europe.. At worst, it can mean, that some in China, think, that the ideology of Hitler, should be used as a tool, to make China a greater nation.. Its 1.3 billion pepole who need water and food.. In Hitlers time, it was just 80 million, and we all know how that ended, when madness was going wild..

49. Just as about 98% of America couldn't tell you what...
...'The Rape of Nanking' is, a surprisingly large number of Asians couldn't tell you what 'the Holocaust' is. Furthermore (and I should note that this is all second-hand information from Asian friends, which could place it solely in the anecdotal category) the 'Axis' thing isn't really taught very much; the Western hemisphere and Eastern were pretty much simultaneous wars that happened to include an economic ally, but otherwise had little to nothing in common. The only reason the US was involved was because of Pearl Harbor, and barring that there wouldn't even have BEEN a 'world' in World War II (meaning that no single conflict would have covered both hemispheres).

Without any grounding knowledge of what the Holocaust is, there's no reason to consider the Nazi's as anything more than another nation that got soundly beaten in a war. We revile the South for its' hold on slavery...but we hold no lasting animosity against Great Britain for the War of Independence. You hear the evils of the Nazi's, but when's the last time you heard a diatribe about the Ottoman Empire? Without the Holocaust, the Nazi's are a war shorter than Iraq.

61. A few years ago I used to spend a lot of time on a Chinese forum
One day I stumbled onto this whole long thing about Mein Kampf. They had the entire text published there, broken up into segments. And the comments, oh the comments. They were not negative.

After that I was so weirded out that I never went back.

Chinese are attracted both by the racial philosophy (they consider themselves a superior race) and by the drive to conquer. Right now I wish I remember where I used to go, because I bet that bit is still there.
