"You gotta feel sorry for the guy. His most ardent supporters are the dumbest motherfuckers in the world, and they don’t realize he thinks they are digging his political grave".

Well Jane... I've kind of defended you here on DU in the past... but you kind of painted a broad brush with this one.

DU--- have at her...

She's not in it for a cause, she's in it for herself. Pure and simple.

91. Calling a woman a piece of shit because you dislike something she said isn't misogyny
"Piece of shit" is about as gender neutral an insult as you're going to find. It doesn't use her sex to insult her, and it isn't insulting her because of her sex. Just insulting a woman in and of itself isn't misogyny.

I haven't read what Hamsher said yet, but depending on the context I may agree with her. So this isn't a kneejerk defense of a Hamsher attack.

129. Are you taking the piss, mon ami(e)?
I fail to see how "piece of shit" is sexist or misogynistic. Likewise, the fact that the person being called a "piece of shit" is a woman is not inherently sexist; in fact, I suspect most feminists would be happy if more slanders against a (generic) person were as egalitarian and gender-neutral as "piece of shit".

24. I truly wish Skinner would make FDL a site that could not be
quoted here. It's been clear for a long, long time that Jane Hamsher wants nothing more than the defeat of President Obama. That is what she has always wanted, and her attacks began before he was even elected. She is no friend of Democrats in general. I doubt that she is any sort of progressive. She is yet another obstructionist.

59. She criticizes Obama for valid reasons, and is therefore trying to help the Democratic party
She's http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jane-hamsher/if-democrats-want-to-insp_b_735038.html">pointed out many times that Obama's capitulations to the GOP and various other blunders are actually working against the Democratic party as a whole. If, for example, Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are weakened by a Democratic president, they'll be a lot of rank-and-file Democratic voters who will abandon the Democratic party.

So who's really looking out for the Democratic party: the blogger who urges the President to not weaken the party and its traditional policies...or the Democratic president who's toying around with rank-and-file Democratic voters by adopting moderate Republican policies and stances?

81. She makes up reasons to dislike Obama and never corrects herself for being wrong.
Calling Obama names isn't "pointing out" anything. The article you link (which was written in September) implies that Obama intends to privatize SS. He has no such intention. Yet, she stirs people up so much that every time Obama says "social security" her ill-informed, reactionary "Hamshirebot" following is whipped into a frenzy.

I suspect I know why Jane is so testy.

http://www.politicususa.com/en/obama-firebaggers-86-million

with no meaningful cost controls is an extremely valid reason for criticism. Forming a commission chock-full of people who have been well-known for their openness to watering down Social Security is another valid reason.

36. Here's the irony
<...>

The irony is that the Obamabots are so out of touch with who Obama is and what he wants they don’t realize that by cheering for the McConnell deal, and his prowess in making McConnell “blink,” it amounts to twisting the knife for him. It makes it impossible for him to reject the deal the end — which empowers the GOP to hold out.

<...>

Speaking of "dumbest motherfuckers in the world," Hamsher conflates the claim that McConnell blinked with supporting McConnell's deal.

96. The irony is . . Jane is a nobody.
She's less than zero.
She isn't even in Charlie Sheen's "winning!" league.

Charlie can sober up and be his witty self one day.

There is no way to fix stupid.
Not the way Jane has displayed.

38. Well Jane is right about one thing.
Obama shouldn't take McConnell's deal. It only drags out the debate and adds to the deficit. If Obama doesn't get the GOP to increase taxes on the rich and corporations then he should let the shit hit the fan. He's getting no respect and he needs to teach them a lesson. This is what his critics around here have been urging. Fight back and fight hard and don't worry about 2012. That's all we want to see.

47. No, she's not
even right about that because the President has made no indication that he is will to punt on this. In fact, the only thing about McConnell's deal that's worth considering is the fact that he finally admitted the debt ceiling should be raised.

To quote Pelosi:

“What Leader McConnell has put on the table recognizes that we must pass” a debt increase, Pelosi said. “So it has that merit in that it says what are we talking about here: We have to pass this. And let’s talk about the others things that are going on.”

Hamsher is simply making up shit to attack the President and anyone who supports him.

51. Her suggestion that anyone applauds that so called deal is absurd
I don't know of any applause. McConnel's "blink" celebration is more about how McConnel's forced gesture, is viewed by right wing zealots. Jane is out of touch with the "base" she claims to speak for.

I get the sense that Jane's clock is ticking down towards zero.

And as it does so, she has to ratchet up this kind of nonsense.

Maybe if I read the rest of the article, but clicking on a link is soooo much work. Plus, I already have three open internet windows.

I've seen nothing she has written or done that actually advanced the cause of progressivism. I have seen many things that she has written or done that advanced the causes of the right.

Think about it.

45. Jane has just blown her credibility with me.
Her association with Grover Norquist (whose guts I hate) was passable to me, because I sometimes agree with *some* Republicans myself (legalizing pot, getting out of the wars, for example).

As a CITIZEN, I have no problem with holding Obama's feet to the fire.

But this piece is unforgivable. It's just a "I HATE YOU!, I HATE YOU ALL!" piece.

I still like FDL in general (HuffPo has some conservatives, but I still read it) but Jane has shown her colors, and they're not "based in principle" rather, an obvious searing hatred toward Obama.

She can pick that lane if she wants to, but I don't think she's going to find a lot of support from the left anymore.

I actually considered becoming a member of FDL. No longer.

56. I know this is a come to Jesus moment for some here
I had one with Bartcop right after 9/11. I had always been a faithful reader of his blog and am thankful to him for allowing me to find DU with a link on his page.

But immediately after 9/11 he went nuts and began suggesting that Bush should "glass", Afghanistan in retaliation for 9/11.

He was suggesting killing every man, woman and child in Afghanistan. Most of these people had never heard of the Twin Towers. Or even New York for that matter.

I never went back to his site after that.

95. That was hyperbole. He was venting.

He did not want to really nuke anyone.

He lost me in 2004. We had a few email exchanges in which I pointed out that every single day for an entire two week period, he made far more negative comments about Kerry than Idiot, about Democrats than Republicans. I actually went through the effort of counting those comments for a two week period to make sure I wasn't just focusing on what I did not like to see (we all do that sometimes).

I actually agreed with most of his negative comments. But a lot of them were also rightwing talking points. Living in a rightwing bubble like Oklahoma where all news is brought to you with a rightist spin has to skew a person's view.
