Those row houses look like Glover Park (when it was new).
I remember a photo of my grandmother with one of those bob-cuts. Though they were still in Virginia in the 20's.

The Gun Free School Zones Act, which normally criminalizes the possession of firearms on campuses, even contains an exception permitting guns for this purpose.
You generally don't see them in urban schools anymore because of concerns over stray bullets, but school marksmanship teams are still fairly common in rural areas.
