Oh, look. I have my first stalker on Twitter!

1) I am the only person he or she is following.
2) The only two tweets they have sent have been to draw me into private messages or emails.

@IanDavidB i really hope you get back to me mr.david it would be highly appreciated , jus DM me at any point i just want to talk
@IanDavidB i understand who and wat u stand for & have nothing against what u say or do i am asking for u to DM me or request my email

WTF could they be up to?

Should I go ahead and request their email, but not send them mine?

2. 419 scammers usually do the same thing to multiple people. This is a one-off.
Someone has singled me out for whatever reason.

3. Twitter is the platform you chose to communicate.
People can connect with you there. Forget getting drawn into stranger's dramas and giving them personal info. Let this thing talk to the wall.

8. Kind of off topic, but I have a Q about twitter. (My apologies to the OP)
But I didn't want to start an entire thread for this.

I signed up for twitter, knowing next to nothing about it, during the AW scandal, in order to see what the rw types were saying.

I quickly discovered that the only way to really get the lowdown was to become one of them, follow who they follow ect. Yeah, I know... :puke:

So anyway, here I am now, w/nothing but right wing people and publications on my 'follow' list as well as over 10 requests from them to 'follow' me. Not that there is anything to see... as underhanded as this may seem, I am totally incapable of tweeting their talking points.

Now what to do? I've considered getting rid of these dumbasses, but wonder if maybe I should stay where I am? I've turned down all requests, and have a 'locked' account, so does that mean that they can't tell that I have never tweeted or that I have no 'followers'? That alone would probably be suspicious, defeating the purpose.

How does this thing work exactly? Can the more savvy among them be able to tell (from cookies or whatever) that I'm really not one of them from my time spent here among other liberal sites and publications? Thanks in advance.

9. They can tell that you've never tweeted and have no followers.
As long as you don't tweet anything, they'll never know anything about you, unless you put it in your profile.

What I primarily use Twitter for is:

1) Finding news stories to post to DU.
2) Finding news stories to post to Facebook.
3) Taking stories from DU and Tweeting them.
4) Taking stories from Facebook and Tweeting them.
5) Retweeting interesting stories, quips and tidbits.
6) Posting original thoughts, opinions and quips, especially when they are too profane for Facebook or DU.

10. Ok thanks
That answers my questions completely. Ha! Including some I didn't even know I had.

I must admit to enjoying the 'spying' on them, but it appeared to work only in the first few days after sign-up. In fact, I learned about a 2nd woman from the Brietbart site hours before it broke because of twitter. However, now all I get is a Palin, Bachmann, Teabagger lovefest and it's become rather tiresome. I suspected it, but now it's totally clear (based on what you say) that people w/relevant info are way more careful.

I was going to delete this account, but have since reconsidered. This time though, it'll be people and publications that I actually enjoy following and leave the 'other stuff' up to people who actually know what they are doing. ;-)

Thanks Ian David.

15. Just don't get married to any one account. Create multiples.
If you want to follow these guys just do something like RedState77... follow them with that account and keep all the trash there. Have a pristine account, and even have another. When twitter says they're getting 600K per day... they aren't REALLY getting 600K per day.

17. It turns out that the person very politely asked me to delete one of my posts here on DU.
I had posted an excerpt from another blog, and THAT original story was withdrawn by the blog that had posted it.

So, I've self-alerted on my thread AND sent an email to Skinner explaining it.

Apparently, depending which version you believe, she either did something really stupid (but not very major) and bragged about it on Twitter, or else something was taken out of context that made it LOOK LIKE she had done something stupid and bragged about it on Twitter.

Either way, what she'd done is not worth making her life miserable over, so rather than be an asshole about it, I've asked Skinner to pull the thread.

I will never join any stupid social website. When you hang your life out there for all to see you are going to attract nutcases.
