BVP-affiliated Freedom Jamboree cancelledBy Lynda Waddington | 07.14.11 | 10:23 am
A scheduled Kansas City, Kan. tea party event of which Iowa’s Bob Vander Plaats served as vice chairman has been cancelled. Organizers have cited financial difficulties as the reason for the cancellation.
“Our event committee was ultimately faced with either going forward now, and initiating substantial contracting fees with the inherent risk of accruing potential debt for our organizers, while inconveniencing those participating and attending; or instead, canceling and returning all donations and delegate registration fees- none of which have yet been obligated or spent. William Temple, chairman of the Tea Party Founding Fathers’ Freedom Jamboree and National Straw Poll Convention.
The group drew national attention in early May for the event when it held a press conference objecting to a raise in the debt-ceiling in Washington, D.C. and used a banner for the event as its back drop. Vander Plaats, chief executive of The Family Leader, and Matt Reisetter, also affiliated with The Family Leader, took part in the press conference.
“Everything was set up,” said William Temple, one of the organizers, told the Kansas City Star. “It was just the tea parties themselves weren’t prepared to spend the money to travel and bring their families.” ............(more)
