Teh Layer Cake of Life. It's good to be the frosting.
So he comes out and talks about the deficit stuff. As always not in the sense of a President that has an agenda and what he wants as a country and a vision, but as person that kinda sees what republicans want, and can somehow understand their points, and is willing to work with them, if they are willing to work with him. Oh, those things that need to be cut? Oh....later on that. This is about me and my style, techniques, and really in a perverse way; how he is percieved in a situation where his skills as a negotiator are more important than say, making his demands non-negotiable.

Because when it comes down to it, are not all republicans reasonable? Don't we have a long history of republicans doing the right thing?

This is now about him. It's personal for him. It's about survival for us.

7. My House rep (DeFazio) and my senator (Wyden) have more traditional Democratic Party ideals in...
...their toenail clippings than the President does in his whole body. Here's the problem: The President presented himself as having a vision when he was campaigning for the presidency, something which has been replaced with a sort of mealy-mouthed middle-management persona now that he is president. Now, I'm sure those who have inhaled deeply enough can "explain" this shift again and again until they reach some abstract about the President's adoration of Lincoln's "Team of Rivals" concept, but at some point there's politics and there's realpolitik, and it's alarming the President doesn't seem to really get the difference between the two.

8. Fail. You were "hoping" for a progressive. He never led
ANYONE to believe he was anything other than what he is. Some say centrist, some say DLCer, whatever.

11. Fat, saccharine, slippery, and unable to take the heat?
Ick.

I'd rather go for the glaze. At least it can usually take more heat and is much less slick and oily. Of course, it's a bit brittle, but that's one of the tradeoffs.
