Chavez to 'get cancer treatment in Brazil'
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/americas/2011/07/201171423752327834.html

Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan president, will travel to Brazil for cancer treatment, a source in the Brazilian government has told Reuters news agency.

The Venezuelan President will come to Brazil's Sirio-Libanes hospital, but no timeline has been set for his arrival, the source said on Thursday.

There was no immediate confirmation from Venezuelan government. Asked if Chavez would go to Brazil for treatment, a high-ranking government official said: "I don't know." Last week Chavez said he may have to receive chemotherapy.

The Sirio-Libanes hospital is considered one of the best in Latin America and is renowned for its cancer treatment centre.

7. You think the Brazilian medical system is like ours?
"First off, the healthcare system in Brazil is based off of a socialized system of medicine."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The Sistema Único de Saúde (Portuguese for Unified Health System) is Brazil’s publicly-funded health care system. SUS was created after the Brazilian Constitution of 1988, which assured that health care is a “right of all and an obligation of the State” .
Prior to that, only people who contributed with the social security were able to receive health care. The creation of SUS was important in the sense that more than 80% of the Brazilian population depend on it to receive medical treatment."
13. The Sirio-Libanes is non-profit for Brazilian citizens
11. I think the number of people in VZ who can afford to fly to Brazil for treatment is small
Equality for all. Especially me!
There's a reason Kim Jong Il keeps going to China for medical treatment. President Chavez understands where the better (or best) care is.
Further, if the health care system in Brazil is based off a socialized system of medicine it would seem reasonable that they would not want someone who is not a Brazillion citizen leaching off their system, wouldn't it? Why does Mr. Chavez get a pass?
9. The Sirio-Libanes hospital
Last year, Dilma, the president of Brazil, had an underarm tumor successfully removed there. The president of Paraguay, Fernando Lugo, underwent chemo for lymphatic cancer at the Sirio-Libanes, from which he has recovered.
Last week, Dilma offered Chavez treatment at the hospital or to send Brazilian specialists to Caracas.
Chavez would be wise to take up the offer and whatever cancer he has, it will be diagnosed and treated at the Sirio-Libanes.
14. Chavez is returning to Havana tomorrow (Saturday) for chemo treatment
(Info from Ven. TV network Telesur)
This afternoon he requested authorization from the National Assembly to fly to Cuba tomorrow to undergo chemo therapy.
Reuters jumped the gun and erred in reporting he would go to Sao Paulo for treatment.
