Hero catches escalator fall boy in Turkey (Amazing BBC Video)
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 02:42 PM by Snoutport
Hands of fate can sometimes change your life. Many of us probably have had our live's saved or at least our health preserved by the act of another human being.

Back in college I went to England for the first time. I was exhausted from the long trip but so excited to be in London as I walked out of the tube at Victoria Station. I was looking around at all the architecture and the ancient buildings and I felt so amazing to finally be in London. I stepped up to the curb (checking for traffic, of course) and leaned out so I could see more of that amazing city. I was in awe as I leaned even farther out to luck up at the rooflines.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed the back of my collar and yanked me backwards just as a double decker bus went whizzing by, about one inch from the end of my nose. (I had looked for traffic but had looked the wrong way...) I've been close to getting killed a couple of times in my life, but that was about one of the closest. All for the hand of fate that grabbed my collar and snatched me back from a certain death. Thank God someone is watching out for idiot tourists and little children.

This was one lucky kid.

1. Back in 1988
when my wife was in the National Hospital in London , first attempt at sorting her brain tumour , there was an American youngster in a coma in the next bed. The youngster had , quite sadly , walked out into traffic having looked left first. Whenever I'm in the US or anywhere else they drive on your side of the road its the memory of that which makes me think before I cross the road.

2. It was my having lived for nearly three years in England when I was
in high school that gave me the habit of looking BOTH ways before crossing ANY street - even one-way streets.

That habit has served me well.

4. What a great story!
With all the bad news we get exposed to day after day, it's nice to see some good news.
