1. Because she doesn't want to alienate the Catholic vote.
And her church believes that the Pope is the Anti-Christ.

5. mcCain hit this issue when he chased the endorsement of Haggee
Backmann's problem will be that her base HATE Catholics.

So she can leave her church ... but I don;t think she can leave those insane far right wingers behind. They are all she has.

2. Because Michelle wants Catholic votes.
And her church calls all Catholic Popes the Anti-Christ. ;-)

8. Neither Bachman nor Romney will have an easy time with Catholics
Catholics do not consider Mormons Christain. It is one thing to have a Protestant with the King James Bible which is different from the Good News or vulgate Catholic Bible, but the whole "Book of Mormon" is not going to set well with devout Catholics.

11. Romney will have a hard time with religiously conservative Christians who believe Mormonism
is a cult. He needs every one of those votes he can get.

I guess a Romney/Bachmann would be quite the ticket for Catholics and evangelicals to support.

16. Catholics and for the most part, most main-stream Protestant relgions
have very little in common with the evangelical churches. I am always surprised when people lump them together. Just because you are "Christian" does not mean you have a lot in common with other religions. Modern evangelicals have taken "solo scriptura" to new levels and have abandoned all traditions from the Catholic and Orthodox Church.

There was a time when Roman Catholics, Eastern Rite, Lutherans, and Anglicans had much more in common than not. Although it is interesting to remember, Catholic dogma teaches that outside the Church, there is no salvation. Thus Protestants who do not participate in the sacraments of reconciliation and Eucharist (which is not merely symbolic to Catholics) are doomed to damnation. The bottom line, if the Catholics and Orthodox do not think the Anglicans are going to Heaven (there is still talk of the Anglicans returning to the Catholic Church), there ain't no way they figure a Mormon is getting in.

3. We'll never know
Because no reporter will ever ask her, because the media are so liberally biased.

No, it doesn't make sense to rational human beings, but it will make perfect sense to her base.

Michele Bachmann's Church Says the Pope Is the Antichrist

I think there were some other things that came out about Bachmann's pastor - I think maybe there were some videos floating around a couple of days ago, but right now I can't remember for sure.

7. Because Lutheran isn't Christian enough; if you know what I mean.
Bachmann's main supporters are extremist Christian teabaggers. Lutherans are phonies to them.

12. Exactly. "Too liberal"
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 05:26 PM by BiggJawn
Yeah, I know, Lutherans? "too liberal"?
Well, compared to the Reconstructionists and Dominionists, yes, they are too liberal.

Now she can find a church where they teach and preach those old-time values, like stoning mouthy teenagers to death and not "suffering a witch to live".

14. Not Bachmann's Lutherans. The ELCA, the largest synod, is fairly liberal, but
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 05:37 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
the Wisconsin Synod (WELS), which the Bachmanns were members of until recently, is the batshit crazy right-wing lunatic fringe of Lutherans. They are every bit as far out there as the Falwell/Hagee/Robertson sort of church, but they have become politically awkward for Bachmann for having publicly declared that the Pope is the Antichrist. WELS Lutherans don't like Catholics.

And if they're the right-wing lunatic fringe and she's made them feel awkward....wow.
