but there is nothing in your quote that says that she is not in a chemical induced coma or that she was conscious. CAT scans can be done on the unconscious. Chemical induced comas are a standard for care in most brain injuries. The terms sedation and induced coma are not contradictory according to my daughter, a nurse.

26. There's a difference between being sedated and being in a medically induced coma.

I've had head trauma patients who were on propofol drips (IV sedation used for the OR) and at regular intervals we titrated the drips down to "lighten them up" (effect is very rapid, both in sedation and in waking up) and see if they could respond to commands, and then turned the drips back up. Medically induced coma is a different thing. I haven't heard which she's receiving. (edit to add, they also use Versed drips, because it's fast acting and clears fast too--that way they can keep close tabs on her neuro status).

to rest the brain. Calm down. She was alert and answered commands while enroute and in the ER. This is not out of the ordinary to induce a medical 'coma' for head wounds.
