ELIZABETH WARREN OUT! - Report

:smoke:

Repukes get their wishes!!

" President Barack Obama has chosen a candidate other than Elizabeth Warren as director of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, according to a person briefed on the matter.

The president’s choice is a person who already works at the consumer agency, the person said today. Obama may make the nomination as soon as next week, another person briefed on the administration’s plans said.

The people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the process isn’t public, didn’t give the name of the choice. Elizabeth Warren, a Harvard professor, was appointed last fall by Obama to set up the consumer bureau until a director was named. Warren previously was head of the congressional watchdog panel overseeing the bank bailout.

Raj Date, a top deputy to Warren at the consumer bureau, was on a short list of candidates to become director, Bloomberg News reported last month, citing a person briefed on the process.

2. So? Warren said she didn't want the position. And besides ...
whoever is appointed/nominated will probably be easier to get confirmed in the Senate.
And then the new person can hire Warren to be his/her assistant, if Warren wants to do that.

I don't see any reason to be upset about this issue.

10. Some posters keep typing that with no links... Do you have one?
I know you don't see the wisdom of a person that knows how this game was played.... But the Banks do... And they don't want her anywhere near them... That is why she need Obama to nominate her, and that is why it matters.....

24. Whether or not he despises her, he has extremely close ties to the banks.
All of the evidence I've seen indicates that she very much wanted the job.

Do you have a link of Warren saying she wanted the job?

22. Gracias.
I suspect she feels she can avoid a lot of administrative duties and actually do the needed work she is best at in a position other than the highly politicized one of director.

13. No, she never said that.
Her closest allies have been lobbying for her all along. The administration cut her loose, yet another sign that Wall Street pulls their strings.

47. 'She still wants the job'
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/05/business/economy/05warren.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1 - NYT 7/4/11

"People outside the agency who speak often with Ms. Warren say they believe she still wants the job.

Only President Obama can decide if Ms. Warren is his choice for director, and for months he has said nothing about it. Mr. Obama has said he has great respect for Ms. Warren and her advocacy for consumers, but he has appeared unwilling to wage a battle with the Senate to actually nominate her to direct the new bureau."

36. If she didan't want the job, why didn't she say so just weeks ago
over the Memorial Day Weekend, when Republicans were working overtime to block her appointment and Liberal Groups were gathering tens of thousands of signatures in support of her appointment?

Is she the kind of person who allow all that to happen when she had no intention of taking the job?

Do you have some links to this, because it seems to be going around with nothing to back it up.

40. I have heard a completely different story, coming from some folks at the Kennedy School
for Politics up at Harvard. I have no idea if it is true. They say Obama thought she was seeking too much publicity for herself and that soured him on her.

But who knows? The rumor I heard might just be as a result of infighting at Harvard...people with professional grudges against other "colleagues." It wouldn't be the first (and certainly not the last) time that happens...
