So MFW (My Favorite Wingnut) sends me an email asserting that Obama is a socialist or communist.
My reply was as follows:

That is a statement endorsed unanimously by two types of people:

1) Those who have no idea of what a socialist or communist actually is,
and
2) Those who find it useful to rely on the ignorance of those who meet criterion 1.

Don't encounter many such statements - but that is a really, really great response.

2. The follow up question is then:
"So which are you, a rube or a liar?"

3. I think that is sufficiently implied.
And I consider ad hominem attacks to be counterproductive. This guy, believe it or not, is a friend. That is still possible in this insanely pathological society.

5. True, not a question that one needs to explicitly spell out to a friend, or friendly acquaintance...
and I hear you about the pathological society, it can be tough for people to break out of the bubble of propaganda. I've got a few in my own family, and I still love them like the rest of my family, though thankfully they're not immediate reletives.

4. Jesus and his disciples were communist.
There is nothing wrong with communism unless it takes the form of a country's government.

6. I'd be happy if he was more than a nominal Democrat
We don't need DINOS in the White House.
