Irony, Hypocrisy? An old friend who is on disability rails against
the welfare state, helping the less fortunate. This guy has deep conservative values, receives disability from being shot 5 times and smokes pot even though he is stridently anti-drug...His face book posts are laughable.
I am on the verge of de friending him even though we were very good friends, I testified at the trial of his shooter, stood with him through his divorce and even stayed with him after other friends dropped him when he started smoking pot.
His anti-welfare rants are beginning to get to me. He does not see that he is on the gov't teat, or he thinks, like most conservatives, that he is an exception to his strident belief-system.

1. Um, Marijuana is a medicine. So if your pal got shot and you
are hounding him for using medicine I'd say he and you each have a friend far more conservative than my own friends.

3. No, for years he was anti pot, arrested users when an MP
Anyone who came to the hospital and were high, they were "fucking losers" to him.
he considered people on disability "too fucking lazy and just looking for a free ticket.." except him, that was different.
And he continues to rail against people on assistance as he cashes his checks.
Oh the kicker, he is a Minnesotan who loves the governor!

4. Try not to let your agenda get in the way of your reading comprehension skills (or lack thereof)

The poster made not the slightest indication of "hounding" his friend for using pot. He simply pointed out the hypopcrisy inherent in a strident ant-drug individual who is willing to make an exception, but only for their own personal situation.

2. What I've learned from my Republican friends is it's "different"
when it's them needing help.

6. You shouldn't hesitate to call
him out on his hypocrisy and utter lack of compassion for anyone else.

Tell him, every chance you get, that no one should be on disability, that there is SOME job he could do.

Give him exactly the same sympathy that he gives others. He deserves it.l

7. My brother in law is disabled.
Constantly bitching about democrats and Obama.

This spring I told him; "Have you heard of Paul Ryan? He authored the Republican budget which essentially cuts you off. No more Medicare. The $2000 in MS medication and insulin you take each month? He thinks it should be your problem. The only thing between you and those assholes is President Obama."

Now it's July. Do I ever feel stupid.

8. Kinda Like My Friend Who Whines About "Entitlement Babies"...............
Edited on Sun Jul-17-11 01:20 PM by ChoppinBroccoli
..............but is on the dole, receiving welfare benefits and food stamps. He says he's different than all the other "welfare queens" because he's a student pursuing a PhD and CAN'T work, as opposed to one of those lazy people who just doesn't want to work. Nevermind the fact that his wife CHOOSES not to work (she was a public school teacher who quit her job to follow her husband to a different State so he could go to school there, and now stays home with their THREE children, two of which were conceived and born AFTER he quit his job, all day--FYI, he used to complain about "poor people who can't afford their children but refuse to stop having them" too), and he CHOSE to quit HIS job as a public school teacher and go back to school in pursuit of an advanced degree.

This is a theme that I've noticed runs rampant in right-wing circles. It's different when it's THEM. THEY'VE got a good excuse. It's those OTHER people who are the drains on society.

9. It's cool that he chose to go for an advanced degree, I think
but it's very uncool that he thinks other people are all just lazy. I mean, seriously, if this guy had his way, the programs that are helping him right now would no longer exist. Kiss that PhD goodbye.

Well, hopefully he'll learn something now that he's back in school.

11. It's a reflection of the Us Vs. Them mentality so prevalent in cons.
It's NEVER the same. My entire family is that way, even though 3 of them (from different portions of the 'extended branches') are on disability (and all of them, rightfully so).

10. I unfriended my mom and brother for their Facebook birthed rants
And ultimately it was because I couldnt see myself holding back much longer. Had I remained friends with them I would have been tempted to respond to their comments of not being racist with "really is that why you use derogatory inflammatory words for minorities and women?" and their railing against entitlements with "so you return your ss, unemployment, disability checks and refuse Medicare?" in other words I'd call them out publicly and figured that would be far worse than just unfriending them.
