Obama told Latinos to 'Punish your enemies'...?

This is being bandied about as 'equivalent' to Beck and Palin on my Facebook. Does anyone know the context for this quote?

we're gonna punish our enemies and reward our friends. . . . '

This in Pre-election context, that is, the punishment = not voting for 'enemies,' and voting for 'friends.' A sound bite which can be used pejoratively in the wrong context.

6. Yes, he did say that...

...it was within a political context and completely harmless. He was talking to a Hispanic media outlet and was pointing out that, again within the context of the upcoming election, that Latino's should not sit home because they are mad at Democrats for not passing immigration reform, but should instead vote against those who try to block it (punish political enemies).

The President almost immediately walked those comments back. Obama said he should have used the word opponents rather than enemies.

This is just silly and there is no "equivalent" between the Presidents comments and Palin's map with targets over Democrats.
