Russ Mitchell, on the CBS Evening News, asked if there was any chance the Murdochs could be arrested
The answer, from CBS' Elizabeth Palmer was that there is no way to tell where the investigation will be going.

I was, honestly, sort of shocked that this question would even be given voice on a television news program. But there it was.

Just put out there.

And left hanging.

Yesssssssssss!

1. It's amazing that they are even asking these questions...
it's as if they are suddenly remembering they are journalists, or something.

3. Obviously Russ Mitchell doesn't have a dog in this fight
and is secretly relishing this-as all true journalists would.

5. Look for the mainstream media to suddenly develop a concern for the 1st Amendment
and possible "chilling effects" created by prosecution of Murdoch.

6. Chuck Tawd has already asked how what Murdoch's papers did
Is any different from TMZ or the Enquirer, so they're already priming the pump for that defense.

7. Which suggests to me that Todd has done the same thing.
How about it Chuckie? Have you illegally hacked into other people's message machines and cell phones?

Chuckie will probably explain that he didn't do anything like that and maybe we find out that he didn't directly but used others that did.

11. Keith Olbemann mentioned that there were rather cozy relationships
between some folks at MSNBC and the Bu$h WH. Keith told of an email sent by the WH to chastise him directly for his "harsh" reporting, but due to a serial misspelling of Olbermann's name a WH staffer forwarded it to a couple of MSNBC "journalists" to pass it along to Olbermann. I'd wager one of them was Chuck Todd.

9. The standard needed for criminal prosecution is probably quite high
and would look even higher if any prosecutor had to face a team of Murdoch-paid lawyers, but it might be easier to find a way to strip him of his US citizenship, that would destroy his media empire more effectively than anything else I can think of.

10. I don't think his citizenship has much to do with things as compared to his actions in any given ...
.... country.

Sanctions on his business would be nearly as good as criminal charges.

12. No, but his citizenship
is key to his holdings in the United States. He feigned loyalty to the US in order to be able to own his domestic media empire. Take away his citizenship, and you have the easiest tool to break up his stranglehold on the rightward corner of US media.
