Mansion where naked girlfriend hanged - now 6 yr old dies from grand staircase fall
The 6-year-old son of the owner of the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado has died from a fall suffered Monday, the family announced Sunday. The mansion was the site of the still-unexplained death of the owner's girlfriend.

Two days after Max Shacknai was taken to the hospital, his father's live-in girlfriend, Rebecca Nalepa, was found dead in the courtyard of the 27-room estate.

Her body was discovered hanging from a balcony, her hands and feet bound, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, which has said her death may have been a suicide.

The boy was injured in a fall from the grand staircase at the Ocean Boulevard mansion, near the Hotel Del Coronado. His death was announced by his father, Jonah Shacknai, in an email to reporters.

2. I am very curious as to how her death could have been suicide-
how did she manage to hang herself with her hands and feet bound?
I've seen some pretty strange cases police declared to be suicide.

3. How can it be a "suicide" when "her hands and feet" were "bound"?
Poor kid.

20. Depends on what they mean by "bound"

Sometimes people engaged in suicide take measures to prevent themselves from stopping themselves once they have put things in motion.

The difficulty of tying someone up and hanging them would likely leave indications of a struggle or some other incapacitation of the victim prior to rigging them up.

5. Where the hell is Columbo?
Ms Marples ,Perot?

There has been no explanation yet from the medical examiner's office about how Nalepa might have hung herself while her wrists and ankles were bound; nor has there been any information disclosed about the material used to bind them.
First the girlfriend and now the

Poor kid but what is going on?

8. I suppose someone could tie their hands in some fashion if
they wanted to make sure they couldn't grab for the rope or anything. I'm not sure why the feet though. That would be easy for the cops to determine if she couldn't have done it herself.

We had a guy near here tie his own hands somehow and was at first investigated as a homicide. It was later declared a suicide.

10. Does someone involved in this have a vendetta against someone?
Or is someone in serious financial difficulties?

Or is someone depressed?

This is quite a coincidence although that may be all it is -- a coincidence.

In any event, my condolences to the family. This is a horrible chain of events.

15. It may be simpler than all that

Mr. Shacknai and the child's mother are divorced. The girlfriend is said to have been found when he and his ex-wife, the child's mother, were at the hospital.

It doesn't seem far-fetched to imagine that if the child was gravely injured while under the girlfriend's supervision that the incident touched off a lot of strong emotions, blame, legal and custody threats, and so forth. Tensions would have been running quite high in the absence of any other source of emotional or financial stress.

11. The Woman that died was babysitting the kid when he fell
Just two days before, last Monday, she was babysitting Max, the six-year-old son of her billionaire boyfriend Jonah Shacknai, when the child reportedly fell down a flight of stairs at the 27-room home.
