All-American John Glenn turns 90 today.
Marine - Astronaut - Senator - Hero. What else needs to be said except:

Happy Birthday.

3. His kids were in my 7th/8th grade public school

when I was growing up. Which I thought was cool.

12. From The Right Stuff
based on the book by Tom Wolfe. Annie, John's wife had a stuttering problem and understandably did not want to go on national television with then Vice President Johnson.

John Glenn: Annie, listen to me, OK? You listening? If you don't want the Vice President or the TV networks or anybody else to come into the house, then that's it, as far as I'm concerned. They are NOT coming in, and I will back you all the way, a hundred percent on this. And you tell them that, OK? I don't want Johnson or any of the rest of them to set as much as one toe inside our house.
Annie Glenn: OK.
John Glenn: You tell them that- that Astronaut John Glenn told you to say that.

4. Great career.
I was disappointed in him for doing a space shuttle junket ride, however, in his position, I'd probably take advantage of my position and do it too.

6. Hey, if you are going to send a senior citizen into space, it might as well be him.
Plus, I was able to see that shuttle blast off in person. So it allowed me to say I actually saw John Glenn go into space, even though his original flight was decades before I was born.

9. Yeah he sucked as a Senator... he was naive
and way over his head in politics and was manipulated
He didn't have the right stuff for that

I still liked him as a person
