State rep caught driving drunk with stripper quits legislature (Mecklenborg-OH-R)
An embattled Cincinnati-area state representative quit this afternoon, caught up in controversy after being arrested for drunken driving in Indiana with a stripper in his car and Viagra in his system.

By making his resignation effective Aug. 2, Robert Mecklenborg, R-Green Township, ensured himself that he will be paid for all of July; if he had quit this month his legislative salary would have been pro-rated.

"My recent actions have become a distraction to the additional important work that lies ahead for the members of the 129th General Assembly. Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I resign from the Ohio House of Representatives," he said in a statement today.

"Most importantly, I want to sincerely apologize for any pain and embarrassment I have caused my family, my constituents, and my colleagues. I will be forever grateful to the many constituents and colleagues who have urged me to stay, but I believe it is in the best interests of my family and my constituents to step aside during this difficult time."

12. Don't know. I just read that they got a warrant to check his blood since he refused the breath test
The video of his arrest was posted here too. It is rather humorous to see him trying to squirm his way out of the arrest.

4. What a difference three weeks make
It seems that Mr. Mecklenborg has had a chance to reflect on his sins, and they have become slightly more than a "personal matter" that should be of no interest to anyone:

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110630/NEWS010701/306300096/Rep-Mecklenborg-admits-mistake-OVI-arrest

In an interview, Mecklenborg refused to explain who the female passenger was or why she was in his car when he was stopped in the overnight hours after Good Friday, near the Hollywood Casino in Dearborn County, Ind.

Court records identify the woman as Tiona Roberts.

"I understand the interest in the DUI part, I guess, but the rest is a personal matter," Mecklenborg said.

I will decline to speculate on whether it was simple inexperience or some other reason for why it took Mr. Mecklenborg so long to figure out what the right thing was to do, but at least he finally did the right thing; once he'd secured an additional month's pay, that is.

5. I think congresscritters should be banned from accessing viagra. That would solve a lot of problems.

All in favor?

7. Not that it matters but
I bet the reason he has resigned has more to do with the stripper then the drunk driving.

9. I'm starting to tired of these clowns apologizing and quitting over silly...
sexual escapades. All of them, Democrats, Republicans, or whatever.

What's wrong with--

"Yeah, I was drunk. it was stupid, I'm paying the price, and it won't happen again. And yeah, I fucked the stripper. A lot. Any of you got a problem with any of this?"
