You've Gotta See This! George Galloway/"Murdoch Empire Beneath the Sands"...Computer Read Article!
Edited on Mon Jul-18-11 04:46 PM by KoKo
This is a First (at least as far as this tech callenged DU'er is aware of )! A Computer voice reading MP Galloway's article on how Murdoch's Empire is like "Mighty Ozymandius" ....and it's read by a Computer Generated Voice... (one that some will recognize) DU'ers will remember Galloway as a fervent voice against the Iraq Invasion and he was a HERO here to us at that time...long ago and far away.

Amazing Article and amazing first use of this technology that I've seen to read an article for the visually impared.

BTW...Saudi Prince Alaweed is mentioned...(for those familiar with Michael Moore documentary)

Murdoch empire sinking beneath the sands

A phone-hacking scandal is exposing shady ties between the UK's political elite and a right-wing media baron.

by George Galloway

"Look on my works, ye mighty; and despair!" So said the base of the statue of Ozymandias of Egypt - Ramasses the Great, Pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty of Ancient Egypt - discovered deep under the desert sands in Shelley's epic poem Ozymandias.

The poet's point being of course that though undoubtedly great, in his day, ultimately Ozymandias and his empire went the way of all flesh, and all empires. So it seems is going the empire of Rupert Murdoch, once the greatest media conglomerate the world has ever known.

Absolute carnage is currently being caused in British public life by the fall-out from the illegal phone hacking carried out by Murdoch's servants. In a story transfixing the country, there are often developments several times daily including arrests of powerful people and resignations from some of the best known public figures in the land.

Like all good scandals follow the money is the maxim. And the question made famous by Watergate - "What did he know and when did he know it?" is the one on everybody's lips. The "he" in question is, increasingly, the prime minister himself.

David Cameron is slowly sinking into the Murdoch quicksands for several reasons. His relations with Murdoch's top-brass, now under investigation, have turned out to be almost comically close. He was a "riding partner" of Rebekah Brooks, Murdoch's British CEO, who was arrested by police on Sunday.

6. Galloway was hacked by Murdoch's minions also.
He was smeared and attacked after he came out and spoke against the war.

This media empire has done more harm to more people than we can even imagine.

That Saudi Prince, Allaweed, is said to be trying to save Murdoch and that he is the one who persuaded him to apologize. The Saudi Prince is invested heavily in Murdoch's Empire.

It's beginning to look like Murdoch was only a stooge after all. He was backed by some extremely powerful and wealthy people. So, why is he now being allowed to sink, I wonder? It's not like much of this stuff is new or that they couldn't have done what they've always done in the past.

Seems like he's no longer useful, or maybe there is something else going on.

Galloway must be loving this.

7. I thonk you're right that Murdoch is just a stooge. I'm elated that he may be
ousted but I doubt that his demise means the emapire he built is going to crumble. Do not the Koch brothers have the means to buy up Murdochs's empire and continue business as usual?

I haven't heard of the son being taken down yet.

12. Yes, but now there is a chance to change the rules
To institute some standards that Murdoch and Moon et al did not have to adhere to. Journalistic standards. It will also take getting rid of elected officials who aided and abetted his evil empire.

I hope its stock crumbles and it becomes worthless before anyone buys it, but you are right, there will always be someone waiting to take his place. It's up to the public now to take this opportunity to end this kind of criminal enterprise posing as a news media.

11. Maybe it's just he "overstepped" on too many people and it was a "tipping point?"
Edited on Mon Jul-18-11 07:32 PM by KoKo
Guardian Reporter on Democracy Now just said that they had been covering the story since 2007...but couldn't get traction until the little girl who was kidnapped and killed struck a cord with the British commonfolk who saw "one of their own" abused by Murdoch. IOWDS...they didn't mind celebrities and royals getting hacked ('cause they love their tabloids...but not until one of them got trashed...did the people finally have enough.)

Anyway...it made sense to me...that explanation.

Edited: Guardian has been on the story since 2007! Reporter just said that on Keith Olbermann's show.

13. Maybe, but the British public were not happy when
six years ago it was revealed that he was hacking Diana's kids phones. He was able to pay off the right people and slither out of that the way he always has.

Journalists can't get traction on a lot of huge stories, until it's in the interests of those in power.

I think there is a lot more to this than another outrageous and cruel act by the Murdoch Empire. But, I could be wrong.

15. Are you thinking someone wanted to
take Cameron Down? Who would have more power than Murdoch to even think about doing that, though.

17. No, although Cameron may fall as a result of all this, I was
not thinking of Cameron, but I will now that you mention it :-)

I was thinking that Murdoch's Empire has been basically the propaganda machine for the New World Order and up to now, the Right has been pretty much in control, imposing their austerity programs on countries around the world, including here etc. Helping to install Conservatives in as many countries as possible, with Rupert's help.

Murdoch was at the G8 in May, giving his take on what World Leaders ought to be doing regarding the Internet eg. At that time, just a few weeks ago, he was not obviously worried about his position as World Propagandist.

Other recent events, while they seem disconnected right now, imo, maybe not be. But I'll wait until I can clarify some things before posting my thoughts, because that's all they are right now. But something seems off about this, the speed with which it happened etc. and as I said, other recent events that make me wonder. Sorry to be so vague. I would just like to learn more about a few things before being more clear ...

14. I don't like Galloway,
he is a massive media whore but I do like some of the things he stands up for. He was however a brilliant Parliamentarian and we miss that from all of the three big parties in the UK.

 I guess it takes one to know one...although I always loved Galloway for speaking out against Bush when few others were at that time.. So, I guess I can see it both ways..

18. I love Galloway and will always remember how he wiped the
floor with some of our worst Republicans when they tried to go after him here. They had never met anyone who stood up to them that way before. He made them look like scared rabbits. It was one of the few bright moments of the Bush years. I will always be grateful to him for that.

Murdoch and his minions went after him viciously and apparently managed to turn some people against him. So it's good to see him be able to get some justice after all. I read that they had hacked his phones, which should be no surprise.

22. I love Galloway
And it's fitting he compared Murdoch to Ozymandias. You can read Shelley's entire poem in a video I did when Bush left office. It's called "The New Ozymandias: A Tribute to George W. Bush." :D
