Woman brings 3-year-old boy with her to rob bank
http://www2.tbo.com/news/breaking-news/2011/jul/18/1/deputies-woman-brings-3-year-old-boy-with-her-to-r-ar-244692/

A woman brought a 3-year-old boy with her when she robbed a Port Richey bank this afternoon, Pasco County deputies said.

The woman went to Region's Bank at 7512 State Road 52 about 2 p.m. She handed a note to the teller and received an undisclosed amount of cash, deputies said.

Shortly after the woman and the boy left the bank, deputies pulled over a silver Chrysler van on S.R. 52 near Athena Boulevard. The woman, whose name has not been released by deputies, was arrested at the scene.

The woman told deputies that she dropped off the 3-year-old at a nearby day care center after the robbery, Pasco sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin said. The boy has been found and he is not hurt, Tobin said.

Daycare is more expensive than I realized if she needs to rob a bank before dropping him off. Oh, my state!

1. Very sad, pathetic story.
Poor baby. And his mommy needs help. Sounds like it wasn't an armed robbery. Hope not.

7. I used to write procedures and course materials for bank tellers

The crime of robbery by definition involves use of force or threat of force to take something from someone.

Where I worked, back in the 1980s, tellers were taught to basically react to a note that just says "Give me money" by asking if the person has an account and ID, and offering to help make out a withdrawal slip.

A note that also says "I have a <some type of weapon>" or "...or I will <do something bad>" was to be treated as a credible threat. The panic button gets pushed, cameras roll, teller complies with the demand, and under both federal and state law the charge would be "robbery" with a weapon enhancement at sentencing regardless of whether or not the person actually had a weapon.

11. Yes, like
family members. A strange home and family, no matter how nice, is not what this child needs. Poor thing.

12. it's a shame they will never go after her "pusher"
"Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco said the woman is 24 years old and addicted to prescription pain pills. He said she confessed to robbing the bank."

13. Her addiction may be entirely a result of her own choices, as is often the case
One of my best friends from college days became addicted to prescription narcotic painkillers. She has a long history of bad migraines.

She became adept at "shopping" doctors - at one time she had prescriptions from FIVE different doctors, none of whom knew that she was misusing the medication.

She eventually got caught, broke the addiction through a long, painful rehab process and managed to avoid any felony convictions.

8. A similar case right here in town led to a real tragedy.
http://www.newsherald.com/news/fatal-95358-suspected-hospital.html

To keep it short, Mom was trying to cash a stolen check with her twelve-year-old daughter in the car, the police came, and then mom led them on a chase on wet roads, which ended in a wreck that killed the daughter and critically wounded another young man, whose car the mom hit.

Mom in this case has a long criminal record, so she probably should have been in jail. Maybe she will get put away this time.
