This is not the fall of the British, Australian or US governments. It is something better. It is their final break from the clutches of the Murdoch empire. No longer will Murdoch be able to dictate the agenda of these governments, no longer will he be able to blackmail or threaten the Leaders of the main political parties in those Countries.

Being associated with Murdoch is now a poison. His empire may not be bust but it is now impotent and that is likely to be the best result for democracy since universal franchise.

1. What I want to know is
how much hacking they did in DC, especially during the Bush regime -- or did the NSA take care of that?

2. I think there was a culture of get the story no matter what,
in all aspects of the Murdoch press (not just his to be fair but he was able to dictate far more than any other media outlet).

Politicians may finally be free of Murdoch and he will hate that more than the money he has lost.

3. It was never just about the story
It was and is about destroying all real or perceived enemies and those who stood up to the Murdoch bullies and the RW agenda.

4. Murdoch wasn't even about a right wing agenda, it was a
Murdoch agenda. Major was destroyed because his government proposed limits on media ownership. New Labour was successfully created as a result. I'm sure there was some kind of offer or threat to Blair to support the Iraq war.

He no longer has that hold, however something as bad or even worse is likely to come along.
