Sad commentary on my tattered American flag: it was made in China.
I got a new US flag today. My battalion commander found three in the
basement at the USFS compound: all made in USA. All double-stitched.

My USFS solar system battery charge controller failed on Saturday. So,
my primary USFS radios failed. My battalion commander and ops officer
scrambled to the lookout. They ordered the facilities maintenance
people out - on lightning code overtime - to replace the controller.
The maintenance guy got there at 6:45 pm, with a new controller
(identical to the failed controller). On the back of both controller
cases: Made in China.

1. It's still a beautiful pic, no matter where the flag was made!
I look forward to seeing the new flag, nonetheless...

Do we make anything in this country anymore?

3. Several states have laws
that require all flags sold in those states be made in the U.S.
However, the U.S. cannot pass such a law nor discriminate against foreign made flags because it violates WTO rules.

My girlfriend works for Annin. One of the oldest companies in this country making American flags. They were inundated for a couple of years after 9-11, trying to keep up with the orders.

7. there is a place in buffalo area that makes flags that has 80% blind people working there.
they did a story on our local station. they have blind people who do the quality control and they run their finger along the stitch and can count the stitch and tell if there are too many or not enough. it was fascinating and a really good story. they make a lot of flags too. after 9/11 they sent 25000 flags to yankee stadium. they have flags on government buildings, cemeteries.... lots of places. here is a link to the story in case you are interested: http://www.wgrz.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=125986

8. K-Mart has all-USA made flags. I wouldn't bother looking at WalMart.
I know the ones at Agway and Tru-Value Hardware are also USA made, but those are a little harder to find than a K-Mart.

10. The last few times flag sales were popular - holidays such as Memorial Day, July
4, etc. our local Walmart had displays with flags for sale by the company in this post --> http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1519723&mesg_id=1519973
