11.54 am. Violence breaks out. Not carried live. Someone tried to attack Rupert Murdoch in person. The video cuts away. Someone was taken out of the room in handcuffs. All I could see was Wendi Murdoch leaping up, and cries of "No! No! No!" Murdoch didn't seem to be personally affected.

4.58pm: The BBC's Laura Kuenssberg thinks it's a bandage on the young man's face – Nick Robinson says it is shaving foam and the young man hit Rupert Murdoch with it.

4.57pm: The suspect looks like he has a substance like white paint on his face.

My colleague Jackie Ashley tells Twitter: "Wendi can throw quite a punch."

4.56pm: The BBC says the young man has been handcuffed. Sky showed the footage again – it seemed to be an attack from Rupert Murdoch's left.

4.55pm: A young man in a checked shirt has been detained by police.

4.54pm: Someone has just tried to attack Rupert Murdoch. His wife Wendi seemed to slap the person.

38. This thread is a good example about reporting, speculating, and assuming.

The film being shown doesn't show that Murdoch got hit - it appears that Wendy jumped up and pushed (what is being reported as a pie not shaving cream) pushed the pie and it landed back on the person in the plaid shirt and splattered on others.

They announced a 10 minute break - and they were quite accurate on the minutes - it was then acknowledged that Murdoch chose to continue.

The film being repeated is viewed from behind the Murdochs. Rupert stayed seated - James jumped up - but Wendy was already in action.

Very interesting.
