Murdoch Apparently Attacked With White Foam During Hearings

The hearings over the News Corporation phone hacking scandal were briefly suspended after a man attacked Rupert Murdoch with a plate of shaving cream.

Murdoch's wife, Wendi Deng, hit the man back before he was pulled away and taken away in handcuffs.

Sky News identified the man as comedian Jonnie Marbles. Marbles tweeted shortly before the incident: "It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat."

A CNN producer in the room reports that Marbles said "you're a greedy billionaire" before
trying to hit Murdoch with the shaving cream.

4. 'You're a greedy billionaire'?
That's the best he could come up with? Hope he's not intending to give up his day job if that's any indication of his comedic skills.

5. The protest
The protest against Rupert Murdoch seems to have completely backfired, Paul Owen writes. It has transformed Murdoch into a sympathetic figure, an old man under attack from a young one, and may have contributed to the committee's decision to allow Murdoch to read his lengthy statement in full. He ended the session having the last word, able to express his contrition to the country. The headlines tonight and tomorrow may well be about the attack on Murdoch rather than the complex and detailed issues that were discussed in the session itself

6. possible that Murdoch hired him
it would be a very Rovian move to seize headlines and deflect attention.
