Maybe the Mayans were right

Half the country is sweltering in temperatures over 100 degrees

Tsunami-created nuclear disaster in Japan

US Government on the verge of a self-imposed default that will crash the world economy and end the US Dollar as the world's reserve currency.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in first place.

(Surely, that last item is a sign that the apocalypse is nigh)

3. The world as we know it will not end until the Cubs
win the World Series.

Please note that I am a Cubs fan.

5. You'll have to wait three more years
I've done the math, and the math says the Cubs win the World Series in 2014.

6. How 'bout dem Bucs?
I, for one, am getting sick of that refrain from the Pirates' newfound fairweather fans.

7. My daughter lived in Pittsburgh for awhile, and she
attended games. She could not believe how empty the stands were. We support our Cubs, no matter what.

To be fair, I noticed the same thing about hockey fans in Chicago. I am not a hockey fan. But they had a core group of fans who attended the games, even during the long dry spell. I am glad the team honored them with a fan appreciation day.
