Sold out again. just like with the bullshit bum's rush "Health" care deal.
No real help for the poor and the uninsured in the stripped down health care plan and now cuts in Social Security and medicare without a repeal of the tax cuts for the wealthy. We are being sold out again.

The only ones the crew in Washington are fooling, are the fools. This newest Bum's rush is a bummer!

1. Oh, let's not be hasty
We don't know all the final details. There are political subtleties that the mainstream media aren't discussing. The plan is more balanced and nuanced than what they're saying. Obama has actually boxed in the Republicans. Oh sure, there's going to be a little haircut for the poor and uninsured, but the wealthy elites are really going to get what's coming to them. You don't understand the political culture. This is the best deal that can be worked out of a bad situation. You'll see in time how cunning and glorious this will all turn out. You dirty fucking hippies are never satisfied. I suppose you'd rather have President McCain/Palin/Bachmann! You don't deserve all the wonderful things the administration has done to for you.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

else to be equally unaware of reality. I criticize the GOP when they do the wrong things and I would be the worst kind of hypocrite if I neglected to address the things the democratic representatives do in error. America was running a surplus until the GOP started cutting taxes to benefit their wealthy benefactors. I won't be silent when I see democrats engaged in the same wrongheaded bullshit and making the poor, the sick and the elderly pay for the rich people's golden egg.

52. You might enjoy this website:
Plumdreams.com

A friend of mine runs it. She had a dream that in the end, the major contender for the Presidency in 2012 was none other than Robert F Kennedy jr.

We could do a lot worse than have this man who really is an environmentalist, an activist really, screaming and ranting all the time about mercury and pesticdes, while Obama's PEOPLE at the EPA rubber stamp items like Corexit after only a week of study. (I ws noticing that the drought spread from Western Texas, which is always pretty dry, to all the places on the map of the south eastern United States where the wind blowing in off the Gulf would smack that area with the end products of Corexit. It's just a theory, and I guess we won't know as since Corexit is approved by the EPA, why would the company producing it bother with more studies?)

Anway, I have added you to my buddy list, and hope to read more of your posts.

64. Thanks for the link.
I guess you can say that I'm an eternal pessimist. I'm only in my 30s, but what I've seen of the political process in my limited years being involved has me incredibly disillusioned. I know there are many here that say that if we had paid attention to Obama during the campaign, nothing he's doing now would surprise us, but I just don't buy that. Yes, I heard the occasional praising of Reagan and Obama reaching out to the other side of the aisle, but I certainly didn't expect this. I was extremely excited to be part of Obama's campaign and cried tears of joy the night he was elected. It's been pretty much all disappointment interspersed with occasional bones thrown to the left since then (of course while having to hear screams of "socialism!" from the right whenever this happens).

I've heard RFK Jr. speak on a number of occasions and I've always been extremely impressed. He's a fantastic, inspiring speaker and I have no doubt that he truly is passionate about which he speaks. However, I've come to the conclusion that it's nearly impossible to be a decent president once actually voted in. I hope to hell that I'm wrong, but that just seems to be the way it is. It may seem insanely conspiratorial, but I'm reminded of an (ostensibly) comedic bit by Bill Hicks given about 20 years ago. In it, he says that whenever a new President is sworn in, he's seated down in a large conference room with many of the most powerful business men in the world. A screen comes down, and on it is displayed what appears to be the Zapruder film, only this one is clearly taken from a different angle. A representative of these powerful forces then addresses the President saying "This is what happened the last time a president decided not to play ball with us. Any questions?"

Now, I'm fairly damned certain this scenario doesn't play out as described, but I certainly wouldn't doubt it if something similar happens. I just don't see how, especially over the past 30 years or so, it seems so impossible to elect a president who has regular people first and foremost in their mind. I'd love to see a primary, I think it's almost essential. I'm just pessimistic as to what happens then. I hate being so damned cynical, but I guess it's better than being constantly disappointed.

How about the previous Governor of OH...Governor Strickland. He grew up dirt poor in southeastern Ohio. He has a heart and integrity and has been critical of Obama's treatment of the middle/working classes.

I know there is little chance of Obama being primaried...but I like to dream.

For what its worth, the betting is that the repubs can't sell this plan in the House and the fallback is the McConnell plan or some variation on it.

Looks like the Republicans are going all-out to oppose:

"Late yesterday GOP Rep. Joe Walsh, who is backed by the Tea Party, began circulating a letter among GOP colleagues that urges GOP leaders John Boehner and Eric Cantor to publicly oppose the McConnell plan and even to oppose it coming to the floor for a vote."

Regardless of how this DC nightmare plays out, I don't really care if the uber-rich have to pay more if the working class gets sacked in the process.

What's that.....you say that you can't afford food, medicine, money for a place to live...etc. Yes, but doesn't it make you all giddy inside to know that the rich are getting a small nick while we're being sliced to death?

Hmmmm....NO.....it doesn't make us feel better.

I'll continue to hope that this doesn't continue on its' present course, but my patience is starting to wear real thin.

For once.......please let the true Dems win one for us. I have about had it with "pragmatic decisions" and "compromises had to be made" reasoning from our ELECTED (supposedly) Democratic leaders.

47. Amy Goodman on Obama golfing with UBS's Robert Wolf ...
As Obama Golfs with UBS CEO Days After Firm Avoids Criminal Prosecution, UBS Whistleblower Given 40-Month Jail Term

http://www.democracynow.org/2009/8/27/as_obama_golfs_with_ubs_exec

"On the first day of his vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, President Obama spent five hours golfing with UBS executive Robert Wolf, an early financial backer of Obama’s presidential campaign. As the pair teed off, another UBS banker, Bradley Birkenfeld, had just been handed a forty-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to assisting a client evade taxes. It was the first sentence in a wider scandal that has seen UBS admit to helping wealthy Americans dodge their tax obligations. On his own initiative, Birkenfeld blew the whistle on UBS. His disclosure and cooperation with US authorities provided inside information into the bank’s conduct and sparked the massive federal investigation..."

Obama's Lead Blocker on Wall Street
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703822404575019413702273210.html

"... Mr. Wolf has visited the White House nearly 20 times since Mr. Obama moved in last January. Mr. Wolf lunched alone with the president in June. He joined him July 4th to watch the national fireworks from the White House lawn. They golfed together on Martha's Vineyard in August.

Making the relationship all the more unusual is that Mr. Wolf works for a foreign bank that agreed last year to pay the U.S. government $780 million to settle accusations that it had helped defraud the Internal Revenue Service. The Justice Department alleged that UBS helped 52,000 wealthy Americans hide billions of dollars in assets to avoid U.S. income taxes. Obama aides say they determined early on that the U.S. arm of UBS wasn't involved in the alleged tax fraud.

Mr. Wolf says that the fisticuffs between Mr. Obama and Wall Street haven't strained their friendship. The rapport between the White House and the banks, he says, "is dynamic, kind of like our industry: Some days the markets are volatile and others times they work smoothly."

...The two men first met in December 2006 in the New York office of billionaire investor George Soros. Mr. Wolf was a newcomer to elite Democratic donor circles. Then-Sen. Obama, still months from launching his bid for the White House, was desperate to raise campaign cash on Wall Street.

Mr. Wolf slipped the senator his business card. He got a call from Mr. Obama the next morning. "I picked up the phone and said, 'Yeah, sure, this is really Obama.' And it was." The two men dined twice in Washington over the next month. A few weeks later, Mr. Wolf hosted New York's first Obama fund-raiser. The event, at UBS's Manhattan offices, drew nearly 200 people and raised $350,000 in three hours, Mr. Wolf says..."

An Upper West Side zip code in Manhattan, 10024, was Obama’s top overall fundraising zip code in 2008, accounting for $2.8 million, followed by the $2.5 million from Chicago’s 60614 zip code, which includes the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood on the north side, according to the center’s data.

Such detailed data for this election cycle will start to become available once Obama’s quarterly filing is analyzed in the coming weeks.

71. There were a few threads on the topic, not much attention though ...
I'm always amazed when people say they get all of or most of their news from DU. Seems there are things that get missed.

;)

But hey -- just think of all the Wall Street campaign money being gathered up in Armored cars right now..... :sarcasm:

45. I agree with you Hubert
Our politicians are for the most part all on the take. Oh we have a few who aren't but they're few and far between. The corporations have bought all of them and simply tell them what they can and can't do so the congress critter is caught between what his real bosses want and what whose paying their wages wants, us. Something about a web we weave. well they've got themselves in a real mess and don't know what to do. Just like the BP didn't know what they were doing in the gulf or the Japanese at TEPCO's nuclear disaster. All they know how to do is fleese us and thats all they care about. I read that walmart has had 8 declining quarters so that means that the poor and middle class are at their max as to contributing anymore to the pockets of the rich man. At some point it has to come to this conclusion and I'm surprised that the millionaires and billionaires don't realize that. I guess they feel they have theirs and the hell with the rest of us. Sorry bastards, (and a few bitches too,) all of them from the corporate board rooms to the halls of congress.

46. First they stole my VA bennies they promised me in 1970.
Now they want to steal my SS and my Medicare. I know how the Native Americans felt now...the government and the liars and cheats that run it, are still breaking promises to this day.

50. And we're the only ones who can stop it and we're pretty powerless to do that anymore
a little too little too late is where we find ourselves today and all the motherfockers running the show only know how to pillage and plunder. Fuck the politicians we the people are in one hell of a mess, first we're going to have to get rid of the sob's who got us here and then go from there. Pretty much what the Egyptians are having to do.

62. I'm not sure he rushed the healthcare deal.
Seems to me he slowed it down to make sure progressive ideas were removed. That is why it ended up protracted even though we were in the majority and the "tea party" gained momentum.

I've never written in a candidate before, but I sure think I will in '12.

the health insurance reform debate.

Where a fake stalemate is created, the rich get everything they wanted, Congress keeps it's big donors, and everyone in Congress has someone to blame for how it had to be that way besides blaming themselves.

67. I haven't got all the details....
but from what I see, there will be a 'reduction' (not elimination) of tax breaks for the middle class such as:

Interest on the mortgage (this could put some people over the edge and closer to foreclosure). The Real Estate Lobby is pretty powerful and would fight this. (I believe the US is the only industrialized country that allows interest deduction on mortgages.)

Retirement Plans....what? No more tax reduction if you put money into an IRA, etc???

Family Dependents: I gotta say I am rather sick of giving tax payers more deductions for having a litter of kids. So I'm not too upset about that...but the Mormons will be!!!!

And lower tax rates for the Wealthy????

This Gang of Six (Warren of VA, Durbin of IL, Conrad of ND, Chambliss of GA, Crapo of ID, and Coburn of OK) are truly GANGSTERS....and the other political minions are getting behind this plan.

In sum, here's the rope-a-dope: USING THE DEADLINE OF AUGUST 2ND TO F*CK THE MIDDLE AND WORKING CLASSES UP THE ARSE.

And another thing: I've been wondering why Wall Street and the markets have been rather complacent about this 'DEFAULT' Threat....they KNOW what is going to happen: Wall Street will be A-OK and the rest of us will be SERFING, USA.
