Apparently, this is inevitable.

What happens next?

2. It does not have to be inevitable.
What happens next?

I give no money, knock on no doors, do no phone banking. There will be no signs in the yard, no bumper stickers. If asked to speak for the Democrats, I will be silent.

This will be a first for me.

I will vote for them, but they get nothing else. And when I see any of them, as I do, they will get nothing but my contempt.

I have already called Durbin's office. I will see him in Springfield in mid August. I will express my contempt to him, and any other Congressional Democrat who happens to show up at Governor's Day.

I am not the only activist who is sickened by them.

10. And to think
I thought by voting for him I was getting a President who would be willing to fight for Social security, Medicare, Union rights, Medicare, the kids, the sick, instead I have elected a Republican in wolves clothing. I guess this means my social security check will be smaller and I will be buying cat food.

14. I will never vote for anyone party to cutting social security, Medicare, and or Medicaid to pay for
BHO's tax cuts for the uber-wealthy who are now allowed to continue their 30-year sucking-frenzy at the public welfare teat big-time. :patriot:

16. They will not respond until it affects them.

So we have to make it affect them.

3. We just get back to work and keep fighting for economic and social justice.
There's little that can be done about it when you have no say. We have to do what they did and create our own realities. Maybe we can recreate a caring society from the ground up.

5. What happens next is the further erosion of the safety net that SS
and Medicare were meant to provide. It used to be that SS and Medicare were considered untouchable. Now the great untouchable is restoring, which I certainly do not define as raising, tax rates for the wealthiest Americans back to where they were before Chimp's lost decade. That any Democrat is supporting this is unthinkable--I never thought in my 54 years I'd see such spineless craven sell outs. Do they want 80 years olds living under bridges? Heaven help us.

8. Nope
This bill will pass neither the House or the Senate. Bill Clinton prepared everyone today for the 14th Amendment option and in the end this is the route Obama will have to take and I think he knows it.

13. Grandma and Grandpa will have to keep working
until they drop. IF the for profit employers, cannot find a way to fire them. Guess they were just lazy and don't have big, fat 401K's from 40 years ago. Well, young people, don't count on old folks retiring and opening up jobs for you. Or better yet, besides your 20 something kids moving in with you, Granny will be too now.

17. Suicide is an option if I become an expense or burden to my sons
and their families. I want them to have as much advantage in their lives as possible that I can leave them.

20. Sadly I've thought of this too. Assisted suicide will be the next big
boom career field. Big pharma is probably champing at the bit to get in on it.

19. I agree-but with the added fact that once someone loses their job
in their 50s, what realistically is the chance they will be rehired in another job, let alone rehired at the wage they were making? I would love to see some of these jackals in suits who keep blithely insisting that the eligibility ages be raised be forced to answer this--where are the jobs for 50 and 60 somethings?
