1. Isn't it the "womens" team?
"Ladies" is a touch archaic.

LONDON (AP) -- The culmination of the Women's World Cup final between Japan and the United States set a new record for tweets per second, eclipsing recent news events such as the wedding of Prince William and Kate and the death of Osama bin Laden.

----------------

The exciting climax drew 7,196 tweets per second, according to Twitter. Paraguay's penalty shootout win over Brazil in a Copa America quarterfinal later the same day came close to beating it with 7,166 and is now second on the list.

Soccer, mom? ESPN's FIFA World Cup women's soccer final, in which Japan vanquished the USA, drew in 13.5 million viewers Sunday afternoon, ranking as cable's most-watched soccer telecast and the sixth overall.

13. Soccer haters gotta hate
But most of you all dying out. Sorry. Once you count the bars and public viewing spots about 20 million saw the Final.
Lets say 17 million were casual fans. That means there were about 3 million hardcore fans watching. People who can tell you who scored goals in world cup 99 etc
People care. And there were millions of hardcores who only follow the men who don't watch the ladies.
Gotta call out a falsehood when I see it. Millions of Americans love soccer ..........and care.

15. I believe Daniel Tosh summed it up best -
"Watching people chase a ball for four hours to end 0 - 0 is not enjoyable unless, of course, the bleachers collapse and half of Europe dies."

16. I really find the soccer hate to be HILARIOUS
It came from right-wingers who didn't want a "pansy ass Euro sport" in America. We have real football, you know, with heavy pads, dozens of commercial breaks, and only about 10 minutes of action in a 3 hour event.

I kid, I actually love American football just as much as soccer.

But the hatred of soccer comes from it being viewed as a European sport. While many don't enjoy the sport for many other reasons, they tend to hate soccer more than other sports that they aren't interested in. A lot of people find golf to be incredibly boring, but you rarely see people viciously attack the sport like they do soccer.
