75 Former Former Professional Football Players Sue NFL For Allegedly Concealing Brain Injury Risks
NFL Sued for Allegedly Concealing Brain Injury Risks

Seventy-five former professional football players are suing the NFL, claiming it intentionally concealed the harmful effects of game-related concussions for NINETY YEARS.

According to the lawsuit, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court and obtained by TMZ, the players and their wives claim, "The NFL knew as early as the 1920's of the harmful effects on a player's brain of concussions; however, until June of 2010 they concealed these facts from coaches, trainers, players and the public."

Among the 75 players -- Mark Duper, a former wide receiver for the Dolphins, as well as Otis Anderson and Rodney Hampton, both former running backs for the Giants.

The suit claims the NFL commissioned a study in 1994, titled "NFL Committee on MIld Traumatic Brain Injury" and published a report in 2004, concluding there was "no evidence of worsening injury or chronic cumulative effects" from multiple concussions.

1. Hate to say it but
NO SHIT SHERLOCK!

Who the fuck would have ever thought that ramming your head into a bunch of other meathead's heads would be bad for you? Sorry, but I have to put in a recommendation of personal responsibility here.

4. Yes I would have walked away from it
I value my brain. I, and everyone else, knows what banging your head into other hard heads is going to do. I one chooses to ignore that painfully obvious fact for a bunch of money, they have made that choice themselves. If one sells their body for a bunch of cash like that, I don't have a lot of sympathy for them when they decide it sucks not to have a body any more.

6. Hate to point out the obvious
But the danger of the game is one of the reasons they earn those 6 or 7 figure paychecks.

8. No correlation at all

Do baseball or basketball players earn even more (the team rosters are smaller) because
those sports are in any way life-threatening, or lead to long-term debilitating
consequences in old age?

Boxing actually seems to be less popular these days, the more people see the
effect a pugilistic career has had on some of the greatest fighters.

I think you meant that as a reply to me, but you didn't even get that right.

7. Forcing players to wear HELMETS renders this lawsuit moot.

9. Huh?
Have you seen a football game lately?

They've been wearing helmets -- made of tough plastic -- since 1939.

It became mandatory in the NFL to wear some kind of headgear in the
mid-1940's, and they were universally accepted by the 1950's, in all
levels of the sport.

Can you please explain your comment, and your reason for posting
in this thread?
