PCSO: Wounded woman wrestled clip from shooting suspect
Edited on Sun Jan-09-11 02:55 PM by RamboLiberal
TUCSON - The FBI and Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik say three "brave, quick-thinking individuals" subdued the shooter in Saturday's tragedy - one woman, wounded in the first 31-round volley of fire, grabbed a second extended magazine from the suspect, forcing him to load a third - that's when two man tackled the suspect and restrained him until law enforcement arrived.

Sheriff Dupnik also confirms that there was correspondence between the suspect, Jared Lee Loughner, and the offices of Gabrielle Giffords in 2007 - he was invited by the office to a similar political event that year.

-----

Regarding the person of interest sought in this case, Dupnik says: "Based on information we have developed since, it would appear to use that the person may not have been involved at all."

When the questions turned to gun control, a previously-restrained Dupnik emotionally expressed his displeasure with Arizona's current gun laws, specifically mentioning legislation that would make it legal for teachers and students to carry guns on college campuses.

Dupnik concluded his comments by saying of Tucson: "We are the tombstone of the United States of America."

At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Pima County, Ariz., Sheriff Clarence Dupnik offered more details on how suspected Arizona shooter Jared Loughner was disarmed.

Dupnik said that when Loughner ran out of bullets in his first magazine clip, a woman who had already been shot "went up and grabbed" the new magazine "and tore it away from him." Dupnik said the name of the woman was known but he did not share it during the press conference.

After the confrontation with the woman, Loughner was able to load another magazine into his weapon, but "the spring in the magazine failed," Dupnik said, and two men were able to get his weapon away from him and subdue him until law enforcement arrived.

Dupnik said the work of these three people potentially averted a "huge greater catastrophe."

1. He meant Tombstone. A town in the wild west.
A lawless gun free for all.

5. Yes it is but it's a bit silly to make that argument now
And this from someone who is usually adamant about correcting the terminology.
