... We just received it, so we haven’t reviewed all the details of it. ...

Q: When will you announce whether you will be supporting the Gang of Six plan? Would that be in the next day?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, as I said, I think what you’re going to be seeing is an evaluation of that plan versus the things that we’ve been looking at. ...

"President Obama heaped praise on a deficit-reduction proposal produced by bipartisan group of senators known as the "Gang of Six," calling it a "significant step" and arguing that members on both side of the aisle are beginning to coalesce around a balanced approach involving cuts to entitlements and tax increases.

"We're in the same playing field and my hope is that we start gathering everybody in the next couple of days" on an agreement, Obama told reporters in a brief appearance in the White House briefing room Tuesday.

"...We're seeing the potential for a bipartisan consensus around (the Gang of Six proposal)...but there are still a lot of difficult negotiations to get something done," he added.

Obama called on all Congressional leaders to support the proposal that includes both significant cuts and revenue raisers (i.e. tax increases and loophole closures.) He also said the plan proposed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is necessary to consider but only as a backstop if agreement on a broader deal falls apart."

2. Instead of quoting to me a BLOG article, you should probably read ALL of what Obama actually said.

5. The point is the BLOG article is tiny snipets, not in full context.

The transcript of Obama's full remarks is much more informative, in context, and more accurate.

11. unlike your 'snippets'?
Obama clearly gave his support to the Go6 plan. As you stated he did not commit to all the details, but he embraced the plan. That plan is an abomination. Deal with it.

13.  "....I want to congratulate the Gang of Six for coming up with a plan that I think is balanced."
"the framework that they put forward is broadly consistent with what we've been working on here in the White House"

4. I'll give him the benefit of a doubt.
But what we really need are hard numbers giving us at least a rough idea of who is going to have it harder as a consequence of these cuts.

7. Well you're not going to get that yet, Obama hasn't read the plan, and ...
no one has had a chance to negotiate any of the details of the plan yet.
It will probably be tossed in the trash in a day or two :)

12. He hasn't read the plan? Seriously?
He gave his support to a plan he hasn't even read? Why would he do that? Suppose it offers to slaughter all the first born males? That would be a huge political gaffe. Certainly he had one of his minions read the plan for him and give him a summary, right?

15. I think this gang of six thing is a lot of bull shit. The GOP would have to break their
pledge for it to have a chance and I don't the the brown shirts doing that.

17. Double speak for votes on opposite sides of the political spectrum.
I'm tired of it. I can only judge him through his actions. His words do not give anyone a clear picture due to some contradictions. His advisors suck. Not knowing if I am voting to screw myself or defend myself sucks even more.

18. What I find disappointing is that he didn't give it the contempt and ridicule that it deserves.
I'd like to see him condemning it and laughing it out of contention...but he hasn't done that.
