Live questioning of David Cameron
David Cameron says that, "with hindsight", he would not have employed ex-News of the World editor Andy Coulson as his press spokesman.

2. Interesting
It seems that the person who vigorously argued that it wasn't pertinent was way off base (not that most doubted it!)

3. Cameron's failure to name the company that vetted
Edited on Wed Jul-20-11 07:43 AM by malaise
Coulsen before he employed him will be the 'big new story'.

He's very slick but he's in big trouble here.

It may all come to naught, but this was always going to be rel trouble for Cameron

The next head to fall will be the Police Director of Public Affairs, Fedorcio

4. Yeah, Fedorcio is out
I wish this would result in Cameron having to resign. One less person in a position to defend the Murdochs would be a good thing.

9. The real debate has just begun
Edited on Wed Jul-20-11 08:01 AM by malaise
Live on BBC international and on the web

Four questions
1. How to secure a free and vibrant media without interfering with a free press
2. How to secure strong police force that cannot be corrupted by the media

This fugger knows that this is huge

10. Whistling Past The Graveyard...
...sure sounds like a man whose seeing his political career going up in smoke. I'm thinking there's a room full of MPs that are feeling the same way about their relationships with Murdoch. This could be a political scarlet letter on a lot of careers if this scandal continues. It's not only exposing the corruption of the media and the police but the politicians as well. This has been quite amusing and self-gratifying.

:hi:

11. Here's why - it is clear that he knew what was going down
given the timing of Coulsen's resignation.
From the Guardian
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/blog/2011/jul/20/phone-hacking-scandal-live-coverage

Patrick Wintour, the Guardian's political editor, sends this on some of the points David Cameron made today.

Government officials said during the statement that the prime minister did not recall any specific conversations with News International about the BSkyB bid, but said he could not stop News Corporation officials from lobbying him about the bid during meetings. The officials stressed that the decision was for the culture secretary, Jeremy Hunt, on his own, and he at no point discussed the bid with Cameron. The spokesman said the conversations were "completely appropriate".

No 10 also refused to state the identity of the vetting agency that was responsible for vetting Andy Coulson, before he became director of communications at Downing Street; the spokesman was unable to give any reason why he was unwilling to identify the firm. There has been a suspicion that the firm may have had contact with the News of the World.

Cameron is in deep trouble

12. Losing the BSkyB Deal Is Huge...
Something telling in yesterday's testimony was how NOTW was only "1%" of Rupert's holdings thus interest (plausible deniability)...and why he was so quick to pull the plug on the paper (probably was a loss leader anyway). Television is another deal. Getting the satellite company was worth long term billions for his company and expanded influence into Europe. Now, not only won't he get that deal but looks like he'll lose his 30% (and controlling interest) as well.

Cameron is surely wishing the House of Commons goes on an 8 month vacation. He's surrounded by this thing...Rupert's not going down without a lot of bodies going with him...

Thanks for the link!

13. Check this out
News Corporation reveals its decision to stop paying Glen Mulcaire's legal fees came after a meeting of its Management and Standards Committee this morning.

This was exposed in yesterday's hearing - By stopping payments Murdoch is admitting guilt. Get the popcorn!!
