It's hot, hot, hot,
Yes, we're all suffering from the heat. It's bad, lows in the eighties, highs in the triple digits, and humidity so thick that you can cut it with a butter knife. But here is an interesting article on the heat.
<http://news.yahoo.com/heat-dome-traps-much-us-pressure-cooker-093241732.html>

A giant heat dome indeed. But did you catch this interesting part?
"While heat domes aren't uncommon, this one is unusual because of its size and duration. It began three days ago and may last seven to 10 days in some locations. And it's moving eastward, with temperatures expected to reach 100 degrees in Washington by Thursday."

"Unusual because of its size and duration." Sounds like global climate change to me. After all, global climate change means more extremes of weather, and I don't know about where you live, but here in Missouri this year we've had extremes of snow, rain and massive tornadoes. Now extremes in heat. Oh, and it didn't begin three days ago, we're well into our second week of this heat.

So when are people going to wake the fuck up and call this for what it is, global climate change? What is it going to take for people to wake up, and will they wake up before it is too late.

Ah hell, its probably too late anyway.

Stay cool people, and don't forget your fur and feathered friends outside.

3. I've learned to live with it,
Go out and do the physical stuff outside during the early morning, stay inside after about eleven o clock or so. Just got back from walking the dogs, going back out here in a bit to water the garden.

Given the nature of the weather around here though, I'm sort of dreading when this breaks. A strong cold air mass colliding with a hot, moist air mass, that means some more big tornadoes.

Stay cool.

12. Oh I understand about the age thing,
Hit the half century mark myself this year, and am finding my tolerance for this kind of weather has diminished considerably. Back in 1980 we had a really hot summer, so hot that the record temperatures are still on the books, so hot for so long it burned away the humidity. I was out and working in that heat that year, and while it was uncomfortable, I could take it. Now, I would probably die of heat stroke, that's why I'm up early and get things done in the morning.

If your AC breaks, get thee to a cooling shelter. You might try sitting in front of a fan with a bit of water dabbed on you, it will help you feel cooler.

And please, don't pray for tornadoes, trust me, having lived through a few, you don't want them.

Stay cool:hi: I'm off to go water now.

13. I hear ya!
I have a similar situation where I'm pet sitting. Right now, I'm sitting upstairs (where their computer is located), and I'm breaking a sweat BY TYPING. Can hardly wait to go walk the dog two more times today! It's such fun to come back about ready to pass out, and the house is almost as hot as the outside. :P

Oh well, try to stay cool - drink LOTS of cold water and keep using those fans.

11. That's pretty much my MO, too.
However, I'm pet sitting until the end of the month. The place where I'm staying has an a/c unit that is way too small for the size of the house. So far, it hasn't gotten below 77 degrees in the house at night. For the next several days, it's supposed to be 100 degrees outside, which means about 84-85 degrees in the house all night. This is my third summer here at this house - I hang sheets in the windows, and use THREE fans while 'sleeping'. :-(

we're talking about global climate change here -- California's Central San Joaquin Valley is having record lows. This is a place that sees a month or so of consecutive triple-digit temperatures in the summer. Last Wednesday, we hit a record low high. It was 83 degrees. In the Summer. In Fresno. We had near record rainfall this year (in water-starved California), we had a mild spring which totally screwed up the crop schedule and we're having unusually low temperatures. We've been feeling the affects of global warming here but, at least for the short term, it's actually IMPROVED our weather. Go figure.

Edited for gooder grammar.

7. Funny, When It Was Cold And Snowing, The Guffaws Over "That Global Warming Hoax" Were Deafening
Funny how none of the people pontificating about how the snowy winter proved there was no Global Warming are doing much talking now.

15. I can barely stand the humidity....the ac isn't handling it. I'm lucky to keep the temp
at 82 inside which is far better than outside. Last Saturday we got four inches of rain and with the index at 112 degrees, it's too much for me and my asthma. Praying for cooler temps and I "think" they're on the way. I bought a dehumidifier, a small one, and it helps. I hope Washington D.C. fries. Maybe we should tell them God is punishing them....it might work with some.

18. But in Washington State, there's been no summer
My sons are out there, and they keep bitching that most days are still in the 60's and raining. Occasionally, they'll get a day or two when it's sunny and in the 70's, and then back to the chill and damp.

The normal high where they are should be 77 at this time of year -- yesterday it got up to 68. By the weekend, it may be in the low 70s, but still below normal. They're not at all happy about it.
