Stewart rips Fox News for defending Murdoch while attacking NPR

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart noted Tuesday that Fox News contributors have played down the importance of the News Corp. phone hacking scandal, but had no problem declaring that National Public Radio (NPR) was part of a jihadist inquisition.

Fox News contributor Hal Thomas and host Steve Doocy have charged that News Corp. critics were “piling on.”

“I thought you were going to say, ‘the biggest case of piling on since Common read a poem at the White House,’” Stewart. In May, the Comedy Central host skewered the conservative news network for their “selective outrage” over rapper Common’s appearance at the White House.

Stewart then recalled that Fox News hosts had spent days attacking NPR, including Peter Johnson’s accusation that radio network was an “agent of a jihadist inquisition.”

“See that is a reasonably proportioned response,” Stewart said sarcastically. “This overreaction to the Murdoch case, what it at most an epic bribery and corruption scandal consuming Britain’s political, law enforcement and journalist establishment is really a waste of everyone’s time.”
