MI Gov signs Moolenaar legislation to allow nonunion contractors to bid on government construction
LANSING — Republican Gov. Rick Snyder has signed legislation that will allow governments to hire nonunion companies on construction projects.

State Sen. John R. Moolenaar, R-Midland, sponsored the bill. Construction trade unions opposed the change, but advocates said it would open the field to more competitive bidding and save taxpayers’ dollars.

“This legislation is important because it gives everyone equal opportunity to compete for job,” Snyder said in a statement. “Governments need to make decisions based on competitive bidding and value for taxpayer money.”

Snyder signed the bill Tuesday.
